Guest guest
Hi Everyone First of all, I would like to welcome all of the new families that have joined us. You have become part of a wonderful group. Now for an update on Adam. Adam has only two more days of school and he will be finished with his first year of preschool. He loves school and loves riding on the bus. We went to his IEP meeting last week. He has tested above his age level for all of the academic skills, but is delayed in his social and speech skills. Because he has a summer birthday and misses the cut-off date for kindergarten in our area, he will be in preschool for two more years. His teacher and therapist feel that they will be able to bring his social skills and speech up in the next two years and he may be able to go right into a general education classroom. He is starting to talk more. If he can't make us understand what he wants, he gets very frustrated and cries. He is generally a very good, sweet little boy. When it comes to the TV though, look out. He thinks it is his and Shrek 2 should play all day long. He knows how to work the TV, VCR and DVD player. If anyone else tries to watch something, the first chance he gets, he will run over and start Shrek 2. If we want to watch a whole movie, one of us needs to sit on the floor and guard the entertainment center. lol Donna - gram to Adam almost 4 mds and Skylar almost
Guest guest
Donna I love to look back over these years and see how wonderfully Adam has blossomed! In no doubt, it has tons to do with how all of you have encouraged him along the way. I am thrilled to hear that he is with his peers academically. I know it is frustrating when you can't understand him, but that will come along and eventually his speech will be ok. Does he use sign language? Maybe if he did his frustration level wouldn't be so bad. I held Tim back an extra year before Kindergarten and I think it did help him socially. So, holding him back is a good idea! There is no need to rush. He has a lifetime to learn! Thanks for the update Kristy Donna Spudic wrote: Hi Everyone First of all, I would like to welcome all of the new families that have joined us. Guest guest
Kristy, Adam does use some signs, but he doesn't like to and would prefer to talk. His old speech therapist was dead set against signing, so he didn't learn too much. He knows enough words to ask for most of the things he wants. As with most children, his mom understands him the best. The problem is, if you don't understand him pretty quickly, he gets upset and then it is harder to understand him. Like I told his mom, we prayed and prayed for him to walk and now we wish he would sit down for just a minute. In another year or so, she will be wishing for him to stop talking for a minute.
