Guest guest
I posted this over at the Natural Thyroid Group but I thought I should post it here since you guys seem to be the adrenal experts. I saw my doc yesterday and got the results from my month long female hormone saliva panel. My progesterone was very high on day 21 thru 23. I just googled high progesterone and it scared me a little. It said that the saliva tests can show false highs and may not be that accurate. It also said that the high levels can be caused by certain kinds of cancer including adrenal types. It freaked me out! My adrenals are barely working if at all and I am taking 25mg of hydrocortisone so I am going to assume they are turned off for now. Does anyone have any idea why I might have high progesterone. My testosterone was high too. But not as bad as the progesterone. I also started taking DHEA and pregnenelone on day 14 of the cycle so I am wondering if that might have caused the high levels? Thanks for your help, a
Guest guest
The DHEA definitely can cuase high levels of ANY of the sex hormones. This is one reason I do nto recommend taking precursor hormones (DHEA, Pregnenolone are BOTH precursors) unless oyu knwo from testing you are low in them. -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Val, Thanks, that makes me feel better. I got myself worked up but you know how we can do that. I read that felt the same way about the precursers. He said if you are taking Cortef it isn't really needed. I was not tested to see if I was low on the hormones before the doc said to take them. They have me taking both and my DHEA was high on this saliva test so I bet that is why. She cut my dose in half but maybe I should just ditch the DHEA and pregnenalone? One more question...if your adrenals are not function and you spend a small fortune on suppliments to help your adrenals function, are you not just throwing your money away? They having me taking a ton of Vit C (which I think is the only one that actually helps), Vit E, several other expensive things loaded with tons of vitamins. One of them is called Adapt and it is $25 a bottle. I run out in a week and I really wonder since my saliva test was soooo low for all 4 times that no matter what I take it won't help those poor suckers. Also, since I am taking a high enough dose of Cortef it is suppressing my adrenals anyway. Right? What do you think? Guest guest
I only know what I have read from GOOD docs that know what they are doing with this. If your adrenals are functioning at all, and you are not full 's there is hope they can heal. What is in the " Adapt " ? -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
- Sophie I also have high progesterone levels and have done a little research. It is normal to have high progesterone levels from day 15 to around day 24 of your cycle - mine were right at the top of the range the week before my period, and boy do they give me a hard time. From day 14 to day 28 my adrenal symptoms become much worse - more shakiness, more hypoglycemia, definitely no Armour increases. In fact my high progesterone levels have meant I can;t increase my Armour beyond 1 1/2 grains - my adrenals just can't cope. This article is quite good about progesterone - I definitely have the progesterone induced insulin resistance described here. http://www.yourmenopausetype.com/steroidpathway/actions_of_progesteron e.html I also read recently that the mercury in amalgam fillings disables an enzyme in the adrenals which manufactures cortisol. I have been trying to find the article which was posted on NTH, but can't for the minute, so I;ll just copy a bit here. " Mercury causes a defect in adrenal steroid biosynthesis by inhibiting theactivity of 21a-hydroxylase. The consequences of this inhibition include lowered plasma levels of corticosterone and elevated concentrations of progesterone and DHEA. " I have amalgam illness, and this is what has happened to me. Do you have amalgam fillings?. Other reasons for high progesterone can be some sort of liver insufficiency (progesterone gets broke down in the liver and if it is not working well this can lead to high levels.) High progesterone in itself should not be a problem - it is the imbalance with other hormones that can make it problematic, and this is what your endo should be focusing on. There may be also a root cause that you can address - like the mercury fillings. Hope this helps shed a little more light. If I come across the link to the article on NTH I'll post it here - it was very good. Guest guest
Val, Here is the site for the " Adapt " http://www.totaldiscountvitamins.com/Default.asp If you click on the first product it tells a little about it. > > I only know what I have read from GOOD docs that know what they are > doing with this. Guest guest
Who makes the adapt? I could not find it on the site. What is it for? > > > > I only know what I have read from GOOD docs that know what they are > > doing with this. Guest guest
Ok, red face, I posted the wrong web site for the " adapt " . It is made by Interplexis and it is for adrenal support. Here is the right site: http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=yhst- 70115233409875 & query=adapt+interplexis & .autodone=http%3A%2F% 2Fstore.agoodvitamin.com%2Findex.html If that link doesn't work go to agoodvitamin.com and click on " view product catalog " , it will give you a search box and type in adapt interplexus and it is the first product that comes up. If anyone wants to know exactly what is in it, email me and I will dig out my empty bottle. I honestly couldn't tell a difference but someone with less severe adrenal fatigue might actually be able to feel a difference. It had half a dozen vitamins in big quantities. Sorry for the confusion but we are getting use to that aren't we? a in North Idaho > > > > Val, > > Here is the site for the " Adapt " > > http://www.totaldiscountvitamins.com/Default.asp > > > > If you click on the first product it tells a little about it.
