Guest guest
Margie, I can't take Imitrex because I am allergic to it. I'm going to a neurologist for the migraines but I don't think he's going to be much help. He's tried one kind of medicine which doesn't work. When I told him it wasn't helping he said that's all he could do. I've been taking Excedrin migraine but my doctors don't want me taking it because it has Tylenol in it. It works most of the time if I can take it before the migraine gets to bad. Beverly
Guest guest
Beverly, I am sorry your neurologist is going to give up on you because you are allergic to Imitrex and can't take Excedrin Migraine because it contains Tylenol. I did not know it had Tylenol in it. Anyway, have you tried Zomig or another relatively new drug that is a competitor of Imitrex? When I had frequent and severe migraines, I discovered the following helps: sit with eyes closed, in a recliner (not lying flat) with footrest up, in a quiet room, with cold packs on the head where the pain is and at the back of the neck, and with warmth applied to the hands and feet. Cool the neck and head, and warm the torso and hands and feet with an electric heating pad set fairly high, a microwaved hot pack, warm socks on the feet, and gloves and hot packs on the hands. What also worked for me was soaking in a very hot (whirlpool) bath, with only the head and neck above water. Applying heat directly is much faster and more effective than learning biofeedback to raise the temperature of the hands. I also gave up caffeine, chocolate, onions, citrus fruit, pickled (vinegar) and smoked (nitrites) foods, all of which gave me migraines. I hope this information helps. My migraines used to be frequent and absolutely AWFUL. Margie in MO PSC DX 3/29/
Guest guest
Margie, I put cold towels or ice packs to my head and neck also. But any kind of heat makes the nausea worse. I guess I'll have to tell my GP that the doctor he referred me too has given up tomorrow when I see him. Thanks for the help. At least I feel better knowing I'm right about my headaches. A lot of people feel you just can't handle a headache. If they only new, right? Beverly
Guest guest
I get migraines too, and Imetrix doesn't always work for me, my doc says that the Excedirin Migraine is ok as long as you don;t take more that the recommended dose and don't use every day, (she believes in quality of life) I have also tried phenegran suppositories, they knock you out and stop the nausea so you can sleep. Ice packs on back of neck and earplugs, dark room and hopefully some relief!!! Unless you've experienced a migraine you can't imagine the pain! Guest guest
When I get a migraine it reoccurs every day for a week usually. That puts me taking Excedrin Migraine every day. My doctor said that my migraines sound hormone related because of the time of the month that I have them. But that is no help if he is going to give up after trying only one type of treatment. I know there has got to be something out there that can help me. Thanks for sharing how you deal with your migraines. It can't hurt to try new techniques. Anything to keep from throwing up and winding up at the ER. Beverly
