Guest guest
I have never used it but I give it to my patients frequently on the cardiac floor. It's a potassium sparing diuretic. Therefore, expect increased urination. It can also be tough on the kidneys so a blood test could result in increased BUN and creatinine. Also, I wouldn't suggest giving it near bedtime as she could be up at night on the potty. Sorry it's not from my personal use but I still have lots of personal experience with it as I've seen firsthand reactions to it from my cardiac patients. Hope this helps Tracey Subject: Anyone used Spiranolactone? To: mb12 valtrex Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 3:22 PM My DAN doctor said that accoring to my daughter's poryphorine test, she has increased number of pro inflammatory cells. Could be because of viruses or heavy metals. Just wanted to know if anyone has used this drug before (Spiranolactone) ? Did you see any side effects/ improvements? Thanks a lot! Guest guest
We tried it and we nothing, good or bad, from it. Well, we did see some constipation early on with it. Constipation is a very common side effect from this med. So, if you try it you will need to have a constipation plan in place. Guest guest
My daughter takes it because she had excess aldosterone. We have seen a big improvement over the past six months as that as part of it but I cannot give it as the specific reason. Guest guest
The lower the dose the less likely it is to be an issue. The general pediatric dose is 3.3mg/kg/day PO. Also regular kidney function tests should be done when taking it to ensure there are no problems. Debi > > Wow! Guest guest
Sorry, I just read your email about your daughter's usage of the med. Have you used anything for kidney suppourt alongwith the med.? Thanks.
Guest guest
We use spironolactone to reduce inflamation per my sons porpyrin test. It also reduces my sons high testosterone. Just watch out for constipation......even after a few weeks. Constipation seems to be a side effect with it. We give one oxypowder capsule per day to handle the constipation. Guest guest
Thanks . I have been prescribed that med. for the same reason as your kiddo. However, did you see any results with it? I have gathered that it is taxing on the kidneys. Did you use any kidney suppourt during the time you are/were taking the med.? Thanks a lot again for your help! Guest guest
We have been using this on our 14 year old ASD daughter since June. It seems to help with stimming. WE forgot a dose recently and she was stimming enormously the next day. Also, I disagree with the person who said to give it earlier. It causes my daughter and another boy we know to be more sleepy. Give it at night. Just my 2 cents. Oh, and we have seen no bad effects with the kidneys. Good Luck! > > My DAN doctor said that accoring to my daughter's poryphorine test, she has increased number of pro inflammatory cells. Guest guest
It also made Allie very sleepy, too. I don't think it lasted more than a couple of days, though. Allie gets a tablet in the morning & one at night. Also, the tablets dissolve VERY quickly in Allie's mouth. I solved it by buying some #0 veggie caps, breaking the tablet in half & putting the halves in the cap. The #0 are smaller & provide enough coating for her to swallow it before it comes apart. Don't know if that will help anyone else, Dr. Geier said I should pass it on because so many parents end up having to pay for non-insurance compounding. Seems the mfg could make it *a little* coated at least! Debi
