Guest guest
I have already commented on 's excellent input, and I would also like to give Vicki a hand ... Girl, I think you did a splendid job today of fielding questions! Y'all make me so proud ... You have no much insight about this disease ... for the rest of your lives, you will be able to help other diabetics with your knowledge! I'm just an old geezer ... I have no guarantee of longevity ... but it makes me so proud and so secure, seeing how many of you are right there, to pick up the torch and run with it. Okay ... so I'm a melodramatic blubberpuss ... hahahaha ... This group really means a lot to me ... I'm so glad there are so many of you out there who have the skills to help others ... we never know when our own light will flicker ... This thing with the blood pressure really blind-sided me this week ... I have a good friend Bill in Medford, Oregon (note to ladies: He is 37, a redhead, brave and smart as a whip, and single!!!) ... He and I were exchanging notes about diabetes and heart trouble, and right in the middle of us trying to figure everything out, his 34-year-old sister Jeanne dropped dead from a heart attack ... morbidly obese type 2 ... She was Bill's only sister ... she left behind a grieving husband and eight-month-old baby girl ..... her " miracle baby. " Jeanne died just two weeks ago ... I don't want to lose any more of us ... Guest guest
, I think you did a fine job of explaining the HbA1c readings ... we are manufacturing new red blood cells all the time ... they have an estimated life expectancy ... when they are exposed to high glucose levels, they create antibodies ... that is what the HbA1 and the HbA1c measure (recently, the labs are doing a combo of both of those readings). What we ate in the week preceding the test impacts our readings the most; what we ate in the previous month impacts our readings more than an earlier timeframe. And the tests are not really meaningul for longer than three months, because of their nature. Susie
Guest guest
" It seems that intake of carbs makes me want more carbs but intake of protein doesn't make me want more.. Have you ever noticed anything like that.?? " Same for me. Unfortunately, I dream about potato's and just when I am about to have a bite, I wake up. I don't crave them during the day though. I would not be surprised if you reported back that you were hypo when this happened ... the body is amazing. Potatoes are one of the most potent glucose-spikers in existence. Susie (who really wants to go skinny-dipping, but finds y'all too fascinating to leave ... )
Guest guest
i am talking too much - thanks for writing and for the help - i know that i am not alone but am skating on very thin ice here - also admitting to being bipolar is tough - , I think there is something that is out of whack in our society. No one should feel bad about having a dis-order or dis-ability. We all were made in God's image and are beautiful in his sight. I have been depressed, I have lost both parents within a 6 week period and had a baby between their deaths, also had the Hong Kong flu right after the baby's birth. This was 29 years ago and it is as fresh in my mind as if it was yest. My sister has clinical depression and will probably have to take an anti-depressant the rest of her life. This doesn't make her any less special just happens to have a little different problem from mine. (Diabetes and high blood pressure. We have to change the way we think. Good luck Spillman

Many people I know who are frankly diabetic or insulin-resistant are on antidepressants. The power of the internet is that we can find each other and feel safe to discuss all these issues - and in our intimacy, we can gain insights into the nature of the disease itself.. Oh, we will look back on this time as a pioneering era - when diabetes married the internet. Susie

Guest guest
> <<<But you weren't dreaming about *beignets*>>> Hi Susie, My last trip to New Orleans was my first as a T-2... What a pain. The Cafe Du Mond in the River Mall has the beignet assembly line behind a glass window so mall walkers can watch them being made... Neato.. Guest guest
Susie, many thanks for the compliment. Can it be that I'm getting more diplomatic? (Is my oops factor declining? ) Anyway, a lot of what I've learned is from you and from others on this list. I think it's terrific that we've got such a good thing going...I remember when this list got started and we had some flaming and this was not so great. Now I check it a couple times a day (if I have time) and I always learn something from it. mentioned that we had 150 on this list...so I guess there are a lot of lurkers out there, because most of the posts seem to be from the same 20 or so. Don't be shy, people! We want to hear from all of you -- both your good and bad times. Throw your questions at us -- somebody out there might just know the answer!
