Guest guest
Hi Toni Yeah that is what I thought it might be too,but the neurologist did the test and said I showed very little if any.My computer needs to go to the shop and in order for me to do anything it takes a very long time and I've been on it more in the last 2 days then since Xmas and the sitting seems to make it act up
Guest guest
Susie, I don't know I have a spot on both feet that becomes fluid like, its between the ankle and top tendon on both feet and it's elongated. I fell down two steep flights of stairs along time ago and did alot of tendon and nerve damage,so I don't know whats going on. I have cut my bp med in half,I was taking 50 of atenanol and I kept feeling like I was going to pass out,my friend that use to take it said when her heart got well she started feeling like that until she reduced the med,but I did not reduce it yesterday,I took a whole one by mistake, my bp had been being like 100/59 All input is welcome
Guest guest
Neuropathy. It's either itching, burning or the feeling that they are being sanded with rough sanpaper (that is, if one foot touches the other!) I guess that doubles the sensation! Guest guest
Toni, That is what I thought too, that is why I cut my med in half, except for the foot thing I have felt much better today. Do you know or remember at what point it became dangerous?

Now you guys have got me worried... I had my annual exam at the optometrist's yesterday and they took my BP (first time I've had that done by an optometrist). Anyway, it was 100/60, which they thought was just great! When I check with my home BP monitor, I usually run about 112/65 (without any meds). Should I be worrying that I have hypotension? BTW, this eye exam was for glasses only; I see a retinal specialist for the retinopathy I had at diagnosis. Sandy J.
Guest guest
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, BUT since this IS important....low bolld pressure is as serious as high! I lost my grandfather to low bp years ago. I do plan to resume most of my b.p. meds, but the numbers were getting a bit weird ... too low, really. As you mention, low b.p. readings can be too much of a good thing. My last readings at the doctor's office were, like, 110/70 - and it turns out I was on the slippery slope to near death from hypotension. It is not as if I am unaware of the dangers of hyper- or hypotension ... I am trying to pick my way through the minefield ... After many years of ignoring my hypertension, it is intractible ... I have to treat it with very high doses of medicines ... but it is easy to put me over the edge, because of that. I probably check my b.p. more than anyone in this group .. and all the while I am trying very hard not to feel like a hypochondriac. Really ... I am monitoring it closely ... and my own doctor knows that I am watching. Susie
Guest guest
Sandy, I don't know. I asked a paramedic and he said it wasn't too low until 50 on the bottom and I said but I keep feeling like I'm fighting to not pass out,he said then you need to call your dr. When I didn't have high bp I had low bp as my norm, usually like 110/65 sometimes 90/65. I wouldn't be very worried but I would mention it to your reg dr,now Toni may know more since her Dad had it
Guest guest
Hi Everybody, Well i don't know exactly whats going on with me.I cut my bp med in half,my bp has been good but my pulse rate keeps going up,when they finally put me on the meds over a year ago (still not diagnosed with dm) my pulse was up to 127,which is a condition I forgot what its actually called. Anyway I am doing 2 hrs of aerobics everyday, and I am feeling like I'm going to pass out from the low bp due to the meds but with the meds in half the pulse rate went to 95,that is what it was for many years 4 or so before they decided to do something,so would ya'll say I might have congestive heart failure due to the ankles swelling or do ya'll think I should give it a little while. My dr is off having a baby and the other people pretty much go along with what I say,I know ya'll are not drs but I would like ya'lls opinion. Guest guest
I was quite young at that time (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth! ...or before dirt as Bill is fond of saying!) and I don't remember the numbers, even if they were discussed. Didn't understand much about bp for years! Had doctors that would say *You certainly have good bp!* Never even talked about numbers! I was from the generation that used strips for urine testing until about 1993 when I got my first Glucoscan! Then no one discussed numbers! I just tested for me and knew that numbers went up and down. Once my doctor asked me what my numbers were and I told him the reading from that morning was 77 and he said *great!* so I just sorta used that as a guide line! You can see I had very little training or education till I had been diabetic for 20 years! *hugs* Toni VPolzin@... wrote: > From: VPolzin@... > > Toni, > That is what I thought too, that is why I cut my med in half, except for the > foot thing I have felt much better today. > > Do you know or remember at what point it became dangerous? > > > > ---------------------------
Guest guest
, I seem to remember reading somewhere that 40 minutes a day of aerobic exercise is maximum ...two hours seems like an awful lot. I do treadmill for 35 minutes 3x a week (plus some weights) and a half hour walk on the other days. Vicki
Guest guest
Vicki, It helps to get rid of the pounding heart, and my doctor told me the more I exercised the better off I was,I asked if there was any reason for me not to do aerobic exercise twice a day, early in the morning around 7:30 and then late maybe between 6 and midnight, after your heart gets into shape without adding resistance you are just exercising.I am very serious about reducing my weight and being as well as I can be and some days I just do the warm ups on the second time. If you know something I don't please share it with me
Guest guest
Hey ... Thanks for sharing your rapid pulse problem with us. I will step in here as one of the responders, because I have taken so many different blood pressure meds over the years. Diabetics are usually encouraged to use an ACE inhibitor because it is potasssium-potentiating, and it is kind to the kidneys. Another class of b.p. meds is beta blockers. These drugs are very good at slowing the pulse. I take both. But I just want to suggest something ... For years I had hypertension as well as a rapid pulse. I finally learned, after a lot of research, that what was going on with me was that I was extremely insulin-resistant ... I was producing way too much insulin every time I ate carbohydrates ... and insulin is a first cousin to adrenalin. I was basically freaking myself out with carbs ... Some nights I would lie in bed and my mind would be racing and my pulse would be racing and my body would feel like the bell clapper in the bell in " The Hunchback of Notre Dame. " Now, I don't know if this rings a bell with you at all ... but it was during this time that I started seeing a psych. and he scribbled in my chart: " manic-depressive? " I really wasn't/am not ... I was just an insulin-resistant type 2 diabetic eating the wrong foods. Once I fixed my diet, I improved a lot. But meanwhile, I also started taking beta blockers, and found they were just wonderful for telling your body to *ignore* the adrenalin surges. That has been my experience. Does anything there ring a bell with you? Susie

It's terrific that you're so motivated to lose weight...everyone knows it's better for you in all ways but some people have trouble following through. Guest guest
Very interesting...I also have a diabetic friend with a diabetic dog. Makes you wonder if it's catching. If you ever teach JR to read that meter let us know! Vicki In a message dated 99-07-30 08:20:11 EDT, you write: << Well, it looks like another member of the family may've become diabetic. My wife & I have 6 persian cats...the oldest, 10 year old JR (Just Red) was in the hospital yesterday for an ultrasound, checking for liver problems and he had a 250 bg reading. We're not sure whether it was stress related as we'll find out for sure today... Now if I can just figure out how to teach a cat to use a Glucometer Elite.. >>
Guest guest
Reverend Jim asks: << Huh? What is a sulfonylureas ? >> Probably the best web site for studying medications is http://www.rxlist.com Brand names include Micronase and Diabeta. They are the " old drugs. " More modern drugs that don't work by beating the tar out of the pancreas have been introduced in the past few years. Susie
