Hi Carol,

Since I was the " first " - I guess I'll respond. ;-)

LEAP is the acronym for " Lifestyle, Eating and Performance " which is the

" Disease Management " program developed by Signet Diagnostic Corporation, a

Medical Reference Laboratory in S Florida, that patented the Mediator Release

Test

[MRT] - which is a blood test for delayed (type 3 & 4) hypersensitivity

reactions to 150 foods and chemicals. (Whew, is that a mouthful!)

These delayed reactions, triggered by " mediator release " - cytokines, TNF-A,

leukotrienes, etc, dumped into the bloodstream - can trigger the symptoms

of IBS, migraine, fibromyalgia, arthritis and more.

(Hey, I'm supposed to be taking the weekend off! But, you can tell I'm still

psyched about what we do, for both patients and RDs!)

So, RDs that become " LEAP Certified " by studying the Certified LEAP

Therapist materials and joining us on the LEAP_RDs listserv (for

communication/updates/questions/etc) are " LEAP RDs " for lack of a better name!

section of the listserv, since attachments don't work. (Actually, while I was

at it, I posted a lot of general info/flyers/abstracts in a new LEAP folder,

It's some of the most exciting work of my career as an RD - I became a diet

tech in 1977. - We really do save lives! (I had one migraine patient that

was very suicidal and had given up hope of ever finding a solution to his 17

hr/day, daily migraines. He'd been to many, many docs, tried all meds,

accupuncture, supplements, herbs, prior to finding us. Well, 2 years after MRT

testing andstill doing the LEAP diet protocol, he's now running marathons, and

says he " has his life back. " He's not 100% migraine free, since 3 sinus

surgeries triggered his first migraine, but he's still among us!)

Mostly, we just restore lives. Our IBS-D patients dare to leave their homes

again. Clients disabled due to diarrhea or migraines or arthritis or

fibromyalgia often return to work a few months after testing. Teens/young

adults

with crippling daily vomiting, feeling like outcasts, discover their trigger

foods, and go on to lead normal lives, finally daring to " move out. "

It is truly rewarding and fun working with this protocol! And, without the

MRT blood work, I would not be seeing these successes.

I was hoping I didn't step out of my bounds by answering this one, so I am

glad to see that you are cheering me on. The way I operate best is to dive

into the practical application, then studying it is so much easier for me. I'm

so happy I have Michal and you (AKA- the first LEAP dietitian) to help. It

gives me comfort.

Go for it Jacqui! And, since you do distance counseling, as I've done with

LEAP clients for 4 years, you could possibly take care of Toledo area LEAP

patients too.

Michal Hogan, also in Ohio, has also been working with LEAP clients for 2

1/2 years, via distance and local counseling. (_nutritionresults@:
