Guest guest
amanda, my husband is on meds. for his swelling, i guess like the pee-pills you speak of.thats the best i can offer you honey were as your dad in farther along in his journey than my beloved bobby glenn. i am keeping you all in my prayers. someone else here will be of better help to you than i am. much love barby > > My dad as many of you know has ESLD, hep C and as recently renal failure. I have been told that the renal failure is under control... for this moment. My question is: He has horrible swelling every where, he gains a few pounds every night. The Doc took him off the pee pills to see if that would help the kidneys. But, now like I said the swelling is out of control. The Doc seems to be in a catch 22, if she treats one thing, it damages something else. I guess I was just wondering if anyone has an issue with the pitting edema and how it is treated? > > I really do hope everyone is having a great Sunday! > > Hugs, > > >
Guest guest
Dear , I was caretaker for my best friend and loved one Ardis, and she did have a terrible problem with pitting edema. One thing I experienced is that while lying in bed, her edema moved in to her hips. The doctors did a victory dance untill I asked about it, and then they gasped and put back on the lasix. I wish your father te best. You are doing a great job of caring for your father. I admire you for that. My own daughter has virtually abandoned me. I dont think she could go through this. You hang in there. Love, Bobby (saadn'leelt- da ya day- n'zho) long life, old age, everything good-Apache prayer ________________________________ To: livercirrhosissupport Sent: Sun, January 10, 2010 9:47:59 AM Subject: Happy Sunday! Guest guest
, ultimately if your dad has refractory ascites, which is ascites that won't react to diuretics, or is suffering from kidney issues the only medical treatment is to have a TIPS procedure done to decrease the portal hypertension. The downside of TIPS is that it leads to increased encephalpathy. The only other thing you could ask to docs to do is to put him on IV albumin. It is albumin that controls the body's fluid level and is normally produced by the liver. For whatever reason in the US, docs rarely use this tried, tested and proven option for treating ascites. In case your doc has difficulty understanding this tell him/her that albumin is the preferred treatment for years gone by when the condition was known as dropsy and it was known to be caused by malnutrition. Ascites is absolutely treatable. I cured mine completely by upping my protein intake. Unfortunately these days it does not seem necessary to read basic medical books.............
