Guest guest
What is respite hours? Is that babysitting, so you can get out? Or,is it actual therapy in your home? Is it income based? Guest guest
Respite is basically childcare. Everyplace handles things differently. Here where I am you get money at a rate per hour and then pay the people that rate but it is alot of paperwork. Some places have childcare centers, some you pick your own help and some have people trained in caring for people with special needs. Not therapy just care. Jacquie H > > What is respite hours? Guest guest
Is that something based on income or on disability or both? Here they have child care assistance for low income...but it pays like 2 something per child and is not for disabled children, but low income children. I have a daycare in my home because I need to be home for Ebony and we have a baby. By the time I paid day care for Ebony (saying I could even find appropriate care that I would be comfortable with) and for the baby, I would have to make a lot of money to make it worthwhile. I have been taking some classes and have made the decision to go back to college in January, part time of course. I have two years in and would like to finish up by the time the baby is in school full time (like four years). I would love to get someone to pay for my childcare, but here we do not qualify. I am on a waiting list for a program for disabled people that provides help, including respite. But we ate like down in the hundreds on this list and I don't think it moves too fast. Oh well, that is great that they pay so much for care for your children. Not that I don't think whoever cares for them earns every penny. (LOL) Sometimes, I think they should pay moms (or dads) to stay home with their kids, we sure deserve it! Guest guest
It doesnt have anything to do with your income. It is for disabled children and for us really isnt that mich durring the month. Just 16 hours here but the rate is goo and even at that I can't find anyone willing to babysit them:( Jacquie H > > > > > > What is respite hours? I could go with the agency they recommended, but helloooooo - - a 4 month waiting list really sounds kinda ridiculous to find a sitter? My girls are surely difficult, but not quite THAT difficult that it takes someone THAT specialized! Besides, the only times I would use a sitter is in the evenings - - - and through the time they are sleeping, I think. It's not that hard to watch two kids who are not allowed to come out of their rooms for the remainder of the night. Surely, there is someone out there willing to do this? Guest guest
Grace, I'd love to, but there's a bit of a distance problem. Maybe you could drop them off here? Just tell me how you go about getting respite! > > (I know, I've asked this before, but my denial-happy pea-brain > doesn't want it to sink in) Penny, I don't know what you have to do in Nevada. In California, for us, we went through the Regional Center, which is county based, I believe. State-funded, but there is one RC per county in this region. Well, whatever be the case, it is through them that our respite hours get purchased, and it's through them that we are getting a behaviorist come out to the house. For afterschool care, it would also go through them. They are the ones who get us the discount on diapers, and after age 5, free diapers. They do everything that the school district is not " responsible " for. In other words, anything outside the realm of education falls under their jurisdiction. Now, sometimes, there is a thin line between education and " outside " of education. Like classes such as " Teaching Language to Autistic Children " or the likes.... that is supposed to be educational, but not for the child, but the parent. But then again, it sort of IS for the child, albeit indirectly. Who pays for that? Sometimes, paying for something out of your own pocket is the only way to attend something by the time the school and RC's are done debating the issue. I am sure - POSITIVE - that Nevada has something that you can get respite through. I can't believe nobody - not the doctors, teachers, or therapists - have informed you on how to get respite care? That is incredulous! Grace > > Penny :-) > > >
