Hi Mike,

I am sponsoring someone from another list, but I am not walking myself. I am

not a walker. Now if they had a swim-a-thon, I would be there for sure! = )

The gal I am sponsoring lives in AZ and their America's walk for Diabetes is

also on Sunday.

Have fun!

Hi, Nicky's dad, the JDF is the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, right? Well,

I'm not walking in that one but the ADA is having their national walk this

Saturday and I am walking in that one...I'm on a team with 15 others from my

workplace. I raised $160 on my own...am I proud! I'll forgive them their

high-carb recipes; the money from this walk is for cure research...maybe

they'll discover low-carbing! :-) Anyone else walking in that one? Vicki

My friend at Baylor Hospital in Dallas said that Baylor raised $2,000.00 for

the walk! *hugs* Toni

No, I'm not able to participate (need knee surgery), but I did sign as a

sponsor for the

walk. Good luck! Will Nicky be walking, too?

Hey, Mike, that's FANTASTIC! (And I thought I was doing good raising $160!)

Thanks. Yes, Nicky will be walking, along with my wife, our other

little guy, Mikey, who is 2 1/2, my parents, a good friend and her 3

year old son, and a few people from work. It's a small team (Team

Nickymeister), but we have strength in numbers $$. This is what I've

done: I sent an e-mail to a few select people within my firm informing

them that I would be participating in the JDF's Walk for a Cure. In

that e-mail, I listed " A day in the life of my son " , which

detailed his " diabetes schedule " (Finger sticks, injections, snacks,

meals, etc.) That really hit a nerve with many people. I think that

many people really don't know or understand how devastating diabetes is

(IMO). Nor do they understand how demanding it is. In fact, when Nicky

was diagnosed in August 1998, a few people remarked that " at least

they've come a long way and it's not as serious it used to be " . Yes, it

has come a long way, with disposable needles and blood glucose

monitoring etc., but as everyone here knows, it's far from being " not as

serious " . Gigi (my wife) and I will also being hosting the " 1st Annual

Nickymeister Invitational Volleyball Tournament " at our house this

Saturday. We've invited all our neighbors and friends, and all we ask

is for a donation to the JDF. 100% of the receipts will go to the JDF.

Gigi and I will foot all the costs for food and drink. At first, I was

afraid that this idea might seem to be a little tacky, but it has been

well received by the 40+ people we've invited. FYI: so far, with my

company's Matching GIft program, we have raised a little more than

$8.500. I'm shooting for $10,000, but that's looking a little ugly.

Hi Vicki,

You ARE doing well! Keep it up. A neighbor of my parent's has a

granddaughter with Type1, and she is amazed at the amounts I raise while

she " struggles " to reach the $100 level. I told her to not worry about

it, because if she did, and decided she couldn't do a good job and

didn't bother walking or raising cash, THAT would be a bad thing.

Imagine if all the walkers of all the walks felt that the $100 or so

that they raise wouldn't be enough didn't walk at all. Surely that

would surpass $10,000. Like I said, Keep It Up!
