Guest guest
I'm looking to use the Michigan REC. I went to a Michigan AFP meeting where they discussed the funding and purpose of the Michigan REC. Basically, for a limited (?200 I think?) number of practices, they will assist as a consultant for the choosing and implementation of an EMR to your practice in order to meet the " Meaningful Use " (MU) criteria. Michigan REC will pay most of the $5200 consultant fee leaving $500 for the practice to pay. The consultant will assist in the process of selecting an EMR, preparing the office for the EMR, preparing for training of the EMR, creating of offices practices to maximize use of the EMR, and finally implementation of the EMR. The consultant is done when the practice meets MU criteria. (Funding comes from the gov't as mentioned in the link below). In helping selecting an EMR, the consultant has put out a request for information regarding function and pricing details for 13 EMRs which, in their minds, represent the best EMRs for primary care. Based on the information returned, the consultant hopes to have 3 or so EMRs they recommend along with a group discount for those EMRs. The practice does not have to choose one of those 3 EMRs. It's just part of the service. After going from paper to an EMR with a previous practice, this seems to me like a GREAT opportunity. Conversion is a TON of work (but well worth it). It sounds like the consultant will bring the ton of weight down to 100 pounds of weight. Even though I'm starting from scratch, I'm still considering signing up. $500 for a consultant on how to implement and EMR including a possible discount, assistance with all the tech/networking issues, and assistance in integrating the EMR and office processes is well worth it. I met some of the representatives from the consulting firm at the Michigan AFP meeting and liked the interaction and their knowledge.
