Guest guest
I have not heard that smoking was hard on the adrenals. But quitting smoking is a BIG stressor so I would think THAT would definitely stress the adrenals. -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

I don't know if the chemicals in cigarettes just masked the horrid way I felt, or if the nicotine actually acted like TSH on the thyroid. Either way, make sure that you very carefully watch your thyroid symptoms when you quit. Within a month of quitting, I had lost tons of hair, gained 30 lbs and my TSH went up to 27. I felt AWFUL. I live in South Florida and was freezing when the weather was 76 degrees outside. However, if you make sure that you are aware of what may happen and make sure you watch your thyroid, quitting smoking is still one of the best things you can do for yourself, healthwise. After 2.5 years of not smoking, I can breath again and I have managed to get my thryoid hormone replacement worked out. It probably will stress your adrenals as well, at least for the first 72 hours, so you should watch those symptoms carefully, too. You will probably end up with hypoglycemia and chills and shakes, but I'm not that knowledgable about how to stress dose your adrenals during that time. Guest guest
My plan is to wait until I'm definitely optimized and stable on Armour, and off the HC if I can do that--and my body is suggesting that I may be able to, by not shaking when my dose is due. When I'm as healthy as I can be while smoking, with my metablolism stable, then I may quit. Definitely not before. I know that I'll probably need to readjust my Armour dose afterward, and may even need HC again at that point, though briefly. Guest guest
4-3/4 grains, but I'm not sure yet if this is optimal for me or not. Just have to wait & see. This past week I reduced my HC from 30 mg to 27.5mg. HURRAY!!!! I'll try reducing it again later this week by another 2.5mg IF I continue to feel ok when it's time for my dose. When I quit, I was only on Synthroid (50 mcg). That was way before I knew anything about Armour, etc. By the time it was all done (about 4 months after quitting), I was on 200 mcg of Synthroid. That still didn't work, so I found a doctor who would switch me to Armour (Naturethroid, actually). It was hard, but I think that since you are already on Armour, maybe it would be easier for you. I don't think my thyroid was producing T3 anymore after I quit smoking and I wasn't getting any T3 from my Syn-crap. If I was quitting today, while on Armour, I think that I would likely go ahead and quit cold turkey. After a week, evaluate as needed and increase the Armour as needed. I can't address the HC part of it, because I'm just starting that journey, but maybe Val can help. Drink LOTS of water. After 72 hours, all the nicotine is gone from your system, and you can begin thinking more clearly. I tried 6 times before I finally managed it, but the only thing I know of that really made it easier the time I finally did was that my Grandpa had just died of Renal Failure due to complications of Diabetes (which I also have) and my Grandma could run circles around me at the age of 79. She could breathe better than me and that scared me.
Guest guest
The Surgeon General's Report on Smoking--1988 under Dr. Koop says this about smoking under the subchapter Adrenal Cortex: " ...studies in animals and human subjects reported that nicotine and cigarette smoking lead to elevated levels of corticosteroids. " " ...chronic administration of nicotine produced a maarked decrease in plasma aldosterone levels. " " ...nicotine-induced increase in plasma ACTH preceds the increase in cortisol. " " ...suggested that the effect of nicotine is mediated via adrenal release of catecholamines and ... " All the above said that it seems to elicit a mini ACTH response in me, which explains why it feels good but also shows how hard it is on adrenals. pages 104-106 Wyn > > > > iS ANYONE TRYING TO QUIT SMOKING OUT THERE TO? i HEARD THAT SMOKING IS > > VERY HARD ON YOUR AREANALS TO?
