I agrre it does come in handy, tho we don't use it up here in our lil bitty town.. shucks we only have two places with handicapped parking anyway <G> the one grocery store and the elementary school.. but boy howdy does it come in handy when we have to go to San Francisco or Sacrament for appts. Even with all of Aubrie's dx's, I have a hard time seeing her as very different. Isn't that weird?? I guess I thought handicapped parking was for wheelchairs, etc. I will ask our doc about it because it would be handy. Especially if she gets too big to carry and still can't/won't walk. We always just hoofed it along with all the equipment and bags. It has made a tremendous difference for us to park close with him. He can now walk to the places we are going since we aren't trudging across huge parking lots. I would suggest that other get one and don't feel guilty about it. At my local hospital, I have to carry her in her stroller up a flight of about 12 steep stairs because the elevator {wheelchair lift} is not " zoned " for anything but wheelchairs. Even if she was in a wheelchair, I would have to put her on the lift, leave her there by herself and shut the door and let her go up by herself. Foolish, eh? I'm in the process of trying to start a parent's protest group. Of all the stuff I have to worry about, getting up and into the damn hospital shouldn't be one of them!!!! Argh! At times I think he really doesn't need one, but then I am so grateful at times when he doesn't want to walk, etc. I think we owe it to ourselves to give ourselves a break like that. And, we are very careful not to use the space if is not with us.
