Talking in your sleep is one of the things that did. I don't know if

it is common for autistic kids or not. talked in his sleep way

before talking regularly in real life. That was something that kept me sane

when he was 18 mo - 3 years. I could hear words in his sleep so I knew he

could say them. ;-)

Wow - what a comfort that must have been!!!!! But frustrating, too, I bet!

Yes, comforting at the time but kind of a false comfort.

I was using that as my main reason not to look into diagnosis and stuff. :-/

But in time, everything fell into place and here I am the mother of a very

unusual (even for an autistic guy) 9 year old! ;-)

I don't know who it is common for but I used to talk in my sleep and

so does my sister and my husband still does along with Greggory. Alec

doesn't but he is basically nonverbal and doesnt make much babbling

sounds all day anyway.

Before Sam arbitrarily exiled himself from his bedroom, he used to laugh

uncontrollably in there...I always wondered if it was angels

Jacqui talks in her sleep. Last night I heard her say " I can't read

this! " " I can't read this!! " ....Usually she giggles uncontrollably in

her sleep, (which is just precious, btw)....

My son, Jeff, use to talk all the time in his sleep, but it was

totally incoherent. He would sleep walk to0. When he was about 12,

he walked in his sleep and fell down a whole flight of stairs.

eegads, that sucked.

I'm not sure what post this started with, but - - I hold conversations in

my sleep.

Shaun often holds long conversations with me, and sometimes, I will be

awoken by the shaking of the bed from his out of control laughter at my

answers.

I usually wake up quite disoriented, and keep on talking about whatever I

was saying before. In the middle of sleeping, I will suddenly say

something, he will ask me to repeat it, and I will, then going on to

explaining how that folder must be placed in this slot, or how that murdered

must be found, he's hiding behind the garbage dump, etc etc.

In my defense, it always happens when I am entirely pooped out.

LOL Jeff says dumbs thing like " Move out of the way! Can't you see I

am fishing for Whale?! " When we first got married he was not used to

sharing a bed so he used to punch me in his sleep and pull my hair

and say nasty mean things to me, but he was sleeping! He also walks

in his sleep. When we were dating he would crawl through my bedroom

window in the middle of the night and sometimes he would fall asleep

and I would always worry that he would start talking in his sleep or

worse yet sleep walk and my parents would hear him! We had more than

our fair share of close calls with that but never got caught:)
