That's odd. Most things are more expensive here. My test strips for my

meter cost $85. for 100. I bet I got you beat there.

out of business. I was paying $32 for 50. (I use Sure Step test strips). So

I started buying them at the hospital where I work. I'm supposed to be

getting an employee discount. The strips there cost $46 for 50 strips. With

the discount. And I ran out of strips when I was camping and had to get

some at the local Safeway (a huge national market chain) where I paid $36 for

50. So there's a huge difference in price here. And what with testing 8x a

day, I go through a LOT of strips.

Guess I'd better do some comparison shopping next time I buy supplies!

That's a lot of money for less than a week. Can you claim them as a

medical expense on your income tax? I can here providing I remember to

get a prescription receipt for them, otherwise they're just considered

another over-the-counter item like aspirin.

I always try to get mine by the 100's because that's the cheapest way. I

can buy as few as 25 to a package but they're over a dollar a strip that

way.

There isn't that much variation in price here. If anybody ever put them on

sale, I'd stock up. Mine usually have a 'use before' date of at least a

year away.

Luckily I have excellent insurance that pays 90% of my supplies. And

probably thanks to the DCCT trials they haven't (so far) objected to the

massive number of strips I buy. I think of it as breaking them in for when

I'm going to start on the Glucowatch disks when they become available

(hopefully within a year) which probably will cost about $3 a disk, needing

one a day. According to my poor math, it'll be a cost saving for them to pay

for these over the strips I've been buying so far. Vicki

The DCCT trials were a ten-year-long test in the U.S. -- I don't remember who

ran it but the results were totally accepted in the diabetes community -

including that bastion of conservatism, the ADA -- that definitely showed the

correlation between high BGs and complications of diabetes - renal failure,

kidney failure, heart disease, peripheral neuropathy, amputation, etc, etc.

That's true. For someone who tests as often as you, they would be ideal.

Unfortunately, I don't have any insurance so I get to pay the whole shot

myself. That's one reason I don't test as often as you do.

I may have missed this but what are DCCT trials?
