Guest guest
Hi, Barb, I suspect coffee - caf or decaf - is one of those YMMV things. I can drink either - even with a little low-fat milk - without any effect whatsoever on my BGs. I usually have two cups in the mid-morning. If I eat dinner out I usually have a decaf with it. Guest guest
Take my coffee away from me and my employer will kill you! It does not have any effects on my blood sugar... but just submitting a sample for my A1C every month lowers my blood caffene level to a point where I may go to sleep in the chair. Guest guest
Hey there! I think we both suffer from the same disease! If I can't have my coffee I can't even function properly. It's like trying to drive my car with no gasoline Just can't go. Guest guest
While we were in New Orleans, Rob introduced me to the local tradition of coffee and chicory ... Mmmmm ... delicious! Rob drinks it at home all the time, and enjoys it black, with just a little artificial sweetener. Here is a recipe from the internet: Café au Lait Luzianne Amount Ingredient ---------- -------------------------------- 2 cups Milk 1/2 cup Heavy cream 6 cups Louisiana coffee w/chicory Combine milk and cream in saucepan; bring just to a boil (bubbles will form around edge of pan), then remove from heat. Pour small amount of coffee in each coffee cup. Pour remaining coffee and hot milk mixture together until cups are 3/4 full.
Guest guest
The New Orleans Coffee Co. offers Cafe au Lait as an iced coffee, in 16-oz. bottles. Here is their URL: http://cafeaulait.net/ And from HotCajun (http://www.hotcajun.com/colgs/cafeaula.htm), another recipe: Cafe' au Lait (a South Louisiana favorite with beignets) Ingredients 2 cups Cafe Dumond Coffee and Chicory dripped, heated to boiling 2 cups milk, heated Artificial sweetener to taste Pour each cup half full of coffee; add an equal amount of milk. Sweeten as desired. Yield 4 cups.
Guest guest
Barb, interesting questions about coffee/caffeine ... I used to drink lots of very strong tea. I actually had psychological symptoms when I finally decided I had to quit it because of the jitters and insomnia. I was actually weeping and shaking and unable to drive for a day or so. Now, I drink extremely weak tea ... just a light tan color ... and I drink more water. Caffeine is less of a problem with tea than with coffee. I think caffeine is a widespread " addiction " that goes underrecognized as a problem for people .... headaches, tension, road rage, insomnia, etc. I think if people have any suspicion they are having a caffeine problem, they should cold-turkey, observe the results, then decide for themselves if this is a problem. For me, it was ... but I seem to be able to maintain this minimal relationship with it now. It is like the alcoholics' groups that observe that some can parcel out their drinking and maintain that control, rather than having to totally abstain. For some folks, that minimal, controlled intake can work, because if they have to choose between total abstinence and their present worrisome dependence, they may opt for the dependence.
