Guest guest
.... Wonder how much this group would pay to meet (in a dark alley) with the guy who invented that stuff. On the other hand, it's much improved over castor oil. I like the pineapple flavored Go-Lytely best (yumm). Guest guest
Cherry, too - but I personally can't stand the cherry. It helps if it's spent a couple hours in the fridge, too. Guest guest
I think there is a citrus (orange or lemon) in addition to the cherry & pineapple. All the flavors leave me with a bad after-taste, so I prefer the plain (not that it is a great improvement). Guest guest
I read a while back that they had come out with a new prep which was just pills that you take with water... you still have to drink a bunch of water and take quite a few pills, but it seems it would be better than the Go-Lytely... Anyone had the opportunity to use it? I think I'll ask my doctor about it next time I get 'scoped! athan
Guest guest
, I asked my GI about this about 12 yeas ago! It seemed like such a no-brainer to me. Guest guest
Dear athan/List, This is the BEST news I have read in a long time! My fifteen-year-old son, just diagnosed with PSC the end of March, will have to have a colonoscopy next month (first since he was four years old and diagnosed with Crohn's). I have been dreading getting him through the prep. PILLS sound great [says one who personally has had two colonoscopies and dreads the liquid-plumber-drinking portion of the prep worse than the test.] My gastroenterologist also gives me phenergan before drinking the cocktail, so that at least there isn't any nausea during the process. Let us know anything more you - or anyone - hears about PILLs for colonoscopy prep! [This would be a better present for a teenaged boy than even a jeep!] Thanks, Kathie Mom of Rick, age 15, Crohn's since age two, diagnosed PSC end of March, 2001 Subj: Re: BOB/Go-Lytely Date: 4/24/01 1:06:53 PM Central Daylight Time From: thegeorges@... Guest guest
Kathie, My GI also stated that he no longer perscribes the " liquid plummer " , instead these pills. I don't know the name of the pills...but I have to say that drinking the " liquid plummer " was the worst part of the entire procedure. He also told me that they also have a liquid alternative, to the gallon " rinse " . It is about time.!!! I too, would rather take Pills than have the jeep!!! Guest guest
Don't tell my gastro doc, but I could only get thru half of the cherry go-lytely before my colonoscopy two years ago. I figured that when what went in came out unchanged, I had accomplished the objective! He never said anything. I have heard that fasting can be an alternative, maybe at least to cut the go-lytely requirement to a manageable amount (say two or three glasses)? Ask the Doctor. Personally I'd rather not eat for a day or two than have to drink a gallon of that stuff.
Guest guest
Be careful with this approach. has had more colonoscopies than I can count (has had UC for 30 years). One time she only drank half the gallon and thought she was " cleaned out " so she stopped drinking it. The colonoscopy was stopped by the GI, I guess because he couldn't see well enough. So the worst part is, she had to reschedule and do it all over again. Roy T.
