Guest guest Posted February 28, 1999 Report Share Posted February 28, 1999 Gail, I am not even fully diagnosed as Type II yet. Got elevated bg's all during the holiday season in the 185-225 region. So since then I have been trying to cut down. Testing at fasting and 2hr pp. Can tell you one day at work, I chowed down on 4 pieces of large Domino's pizza with sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms. The bg about 1 hr before lunch was 110. Two hours after lunch it was 195. That's nearly the same span as you achieved, but now I know that 4 slices is not going to cut it. I guess I will be going to the Dr. on Thursday to find out what he has to say. Hopefully, it is not serious. But I am a little worried. I'm 46, T2, glucophage 500mg/day since 21 Dec 98, untreated prior to that... so I'm relatively inexperienced in managing my DM. When I have high readings I'm headachy, when I have lower than usual readings I get headachy. I had headaches 3 to 5 days a week for most of 1998 while I was trying to get my insurance reinstated so I could get treatment. In mid January I had 2.5 days of headache and slight nausea after I went to the ER after a " low. " Shorly after starting glucophage in December 1998, I ate two bites of a chocolate cake type doughnut, and I was about 20 to 30 mg/dl (1-1.6 mmol/l) lower 2 hours later with a mild headache. In my 3 month reading of mhd, The folks in the misc.health.diabetes newsgroup seem to support the idea that rapid increases in bG levels fairly commonly cause headaches and sometimes other alcoholic hangover symptoms, especially after injection of glucagon or after a liver dump precipitated by a low. YMMV -- your mileage may vary I'm seeing an endocrinologist tomorrow. I seem to have hypoglycemic symptoms. Apparently lots of DMs are hypoglycemic. I have possible symptoms of IPS (ideopathic postprandial syndrome) where I have mental and physical symptoms of mild to severe hypoglycemia at near normal or even slightly elevated bG readings. I also sometimes produce moderate ketones even when not fasting. Type 2s don't usually produce significant ketones unless they're on a starvation diet. Guest guest Posted March 26, 1999 Report Share Posted March 26, 1999 I also suffer from occasional migranes, but since 2/2/99 I have had a headache that has not laet up. I have been hospitalized 4 times since then because the headaches have caused dka/dehydation. They have tried all sorts of meds to try and stop it. They also did a cat scan which was neg. THe headache has caused some problems with my shortterm memory so I have been on leave from work since then. Currently they have me on a non-narcotic painkiller( I was on percots, but they only make me sleepy) and an anti-depressant on low dosages. The anti depressant has been found to help prevent some headaches. Something to do withthe serenton( excuse my spelling) levels in the brain.
