Guest guest
Hi Oluf I took my insulin at 7:45 am and experience the low at 11:00 am. So I reduced my morning insulin by 2 ui. I am not total comfortable with reducing insulin on my own. My insulins are premixed, I don't know if that makes a difference. Gail type 2/ June 98 Oluf sson wrote: > From: Metaforum-sson@... Guest guest
Hi again Gail. As far as I remember, my post was on your low am BG-reading. I cannot tell you, what you should do best on 11 am lows taking premixed insulin, as I have no experience with that. (I take background insulin am and at bedtime, and normal insulin with carb counting at meals). Taking premixed insulin at 7:45 am with a low at 11:00 am: Didn't you have any breakfast? Did you do some extraordinary physical work between 7:45 am and 11:00 am? Maybe (just guessing) that your low at 11 am is due to the peak of the normal insulin in the mix. The normal insulin would have its peak after 2-3 hours and the long-acting part fo the mix would begin its action after some 2 hours; so it mght be a combination of all these factors. Maybe it would be more comfortable for you to take them separately, as I do? I suggest you check with your doc. Guest guest
Hi Oluf; I had my breakfast and and I didn't do any physical activity, but the past couple of mornings after that low I was still getting low 3 readings. So I reduced my insulin by 2 units and that seems to be working. My husband says that I am losing weight, so that could be part of the reason. Oluf sson wrote: > From: Metaforum-sson@... Looking at the various Humulin actions, the premixed has an extra kick starting at about 3 hours (anticipating a carbohydrate load at lunch, I assume), and if you have lowered carbohydrate intake, I am thinking it is overcorrecting for you?
