Guest guest
I can recommend two BP meds that are safe to take. Dyazide or Apresoline. Thanks Val. The problem is my doctor does not know that I am taking steroids and I don't want to open that particular can of worms at this time. A friend has looked up contraindications for this drug, Bendroflumethiazide, and could not find any contraindications for hc or Pred. and yet it says in the box that it is contraindicated with costercosteroids i.e. Prednisolone. Does costercorteroids mean h.c. also. Ta., Mo NOVA Counselling & Healing Services

Guest guest
orry to hear you're having a bad time. I have decided that the oestrogel is the way forward for me and my adrenals and my high progesterone. Will give it a proper go next month. How is your pred taper going? I have decided to get off it - think it's giving my liver a hard time. Hi Nicola It is one of those days I am afraid when everything seems to go wrong. My next door neighbour has decided to sue me also I discovered in the post this morning! Oh boy!! Good luck with the oestrogel, my GP wasn;t having any of it. I reduced to 2 1.2 Pred and 10 h.c. at the weekend. Getting there! NOVA Counselling & Healing Services
Guest guest
I just looked your med up and it is the same basic TYPE of med as Dyazide. I have taken Dyazide with HC for several years as needed. However yours is not a Potassium Sparing one like Dyazide is so oyu will need to eat potassium rich foods wihtit. The ocnflict is that corticosteroids can increase BP and fluid retention, this lowers fluid in the body. So they couteract each other in that respect. Which is what you need actualy Oh thanks for doing this Val, you are truly a rare treasure. NOVA Counselling & Healing Services

Guest guest
, I mentioned this to my NP, but she said since I seemed to be doing well on Diovan 80mg, she didn't want to change me. Do you have any info on these meds that I could print out to take to her? Thanks, Kathy Re: HELP???? I can recommend two BP meds that are safe to take. Guest guest
For your doctor to say that estrogen is contraindicated for high bp is ridiculous. Perhaps if it's synthetic, that's true. But if it's bio-identical estradiol, it's extremely PROTECTIVE of heart health, including blood pressure. In fact, among the many, many good things it does for circulatory health, estradiol acts as a natural calcium channel blocker and also stimulates the release of endothelium- derived relaxing factor (EDRF, thought to be nitric oxide) which plays a key role in dilating blood vessels to maintain proper pressure and flow. Heart disease kills more women than anything else. And it's no accident that older women develop more cardiac problems as their naturally-protective estradiol levels fall. I'd try to find another doctor who understands this important link. Hollis

She did not seem au fait with bio-identical at all, she said that oestrogel was not natural and that natural was Premarin. Maybe she said this to force me to take the BP meds because the last lot I put in the bin. NOVA Counselling & Healing Services
Guest guest
Oh Holly, is that true? She did not seem au fait with bio-identical at all, she said that oestrogel was not natural and that natural was Premarin. Maybe she said this to force me to take the BP meds because the last lot I put in the bin. She's either lying through her teeth, in order to scare you into taking the BP meds, or she is totally misinformed. Either way it's bad news. Just the fact that she'd say that Premarin is natural would be enough for me to turn and run. . . FAST! Premarin, besides being primarily composed of inhumanely-obtained mare's urine, also includes synthetic hormones that have nothing to do with what a female human naturally produces. It is about as unnatural and dangerous (in my opinion) as you can get when it comes to hormone replacement. Oestrogel IS bio-identical 17-beta estradiol. Here's a link that describes it: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001917.html (I would dismiss the comment further down in the article saying that estrogen shouldn't be used for long-term bone protection, since in the studies sited synthetic forms of estrogen, like Premarin, were used -- NOT estradiol.) Of course having such high blood pressure is dangerous and you do need to lower it. I just wanted you to know, though, that estrogen -- in the form of estradiol -- added to whatever else you do, should help, not hurt. Also, have you seen the book by Dr. Sherry A. , M.D. called The High Blood Pressure HOAX! ? Someone on the NTH list recom- mended it a few months ago and i got a copy for my sister, who's dealing with extremely high bp/Hashi's/lowering estrogen levels. It's so good that i ended up getting another copy for myself, even though i don't have high bp! She gives many many suggestions on how to improve cardio-vascular health in general. You might want to check it out. I got mine on Amazon.com. Hollis

I think the bottom line here with my GP is they are very limited (well we KNOW they are very limited, lol). Ooops. start again: they are restricted here in England as to what they can prescribe on the National Health Service and basically she said that she could not prescribe what I wanted a. because she was unable to give my anything other than oral p. and also that the BP question made the whole thing out of the question and irrelevant. She obviously knows very little about natural hormones and I am guessing that short of going to see a private doctor which would cost more I have, that this kind of thing is probably not unusual in the NHS. Guest guest
It's not any better here. There may be more docs who use their brains, but per capita there are probably even less. Deborah Mo -- I'm afraid it's not unusual EVERYWHERE Really Hollis? I had hoped the situation was somewhat better in the U.S. Perhaps the British health care system is even more restrictive for those few practitioners who actually do know something about hormones. But in my experience here in the U.S., when it comes to female sex hormone issues, finding a doctor who really understands the complexities of the issue is as hard as finding a doctor who knows how to treat thyroid problems properly.
