Glad you came out of it alive. >> The mind can be amazing. As I was literally flying through the air, I had two thoughts: " This is really gonna hurt, " and " I could die here. " It was the hardest lick I think I could have withstood without actually dying. Afterward, I thought, " This must be what it would feel like to be an out-of-shape, middle-aged gal to be body-slammed by one of the WWF wrestlers. " Immediately after the rollover, I was pinned beneath the mower, and it was still running, and gas was pouring out of the tank (which was above me, at that point), and I am scared of a fire, and I'm trying to kick the thing off me for all I'm worth. I'm glad for the athletic background, because it does teach you to use your body ... and to summon resources you might not realize you have. And the sports like snow ski racing - as well as the tractor-trailer driving - have taught me to keep a cool head. When I got back to my feet, I was in pain and really shook up. I sat on the edge of the mechanic's porch and tried to gather myself ... but the mechanic - being a mechanic - saw that the motor oil was pouring out through the top of the motor and we had to get the thing upright ASAP. He grabbed a chain and his own big lawn tractor, which has the cutest tire chains on its rear wheels, and I had to do the grunt work of pushing this big sucker back uphill to right it, while he tugged away with his tractor. That required almost more grit than I could summon. Sometimes I just want to be somebody's little girl ... I have a lot of empathy for men, because I have " had to do your job " much of my life ... and it ain't one bit easy ... ) Susie

What an ordeal.. It really does sound like you had a close call there. > <<<Sometimes I just want to be somebody's little girl ... I think I can crow about my triumphs, as well as admit my shortcomings, without fear of being attacked. I think this group is exactly what a diabetes group should be about ... But if there are lurkers who have a gripe or constructive criticism, we want to hear that too! Susie

I realized two things: I haven't made out a Will, and the house is REALLY messy!! I'm going to attend to both matters ... one of these days .... Susie ) I'd like to welcome new member Dave Balcom, another refugee from the MHD newsgroup. This is the greatest group ... Dave will learn so much here, plus find a " diabetes family " that seems difficult to sustain in that other group. And Dave was the first to learn in private email a few minutes ago that I'm off to go skinny-dipping ... so, as you can tell, I'm feeling pretty darn spunky - for a gal who was yelling at her blood pressure machine to register her as among the living a few days ago! hahahahaha
