Healthy diet order

I am working on menu revisions at a adult developmental home. The current

therapeutic diet orders are regular, no added salt, low cholesterol and wt

reduction. In an attempt to simplify the menus, I was wondering if I can create

a new diet called " heart healthy diet " which would be approx. 1800-2000 kcals,

4 gm NA, and low in sat fat and then change all my regular, low chol and

NAS clients to this new diet? I would create a separate column for the wt

reduction which would be approx 1500 kcals. Of course, I would have to get MD

orders changed and I would have to revise the diet manual as well. Would

eliminating the standard American regular diet (bacon, donuts, sausages are

currently on the menu) be a quality of life issue? Thank you to anyone who has a

moment to think about this with me.

That is what we have done at the Assisted Living Facility I consult with...it is

basically one diet with small changes as needed!
