Guest guest
I know what u mean, I have no problem speaking to people about a subject. Like when i go into a bank or takin a driving lesson and we are talking about a real subject. My problem is trying to talk to people socially and just make conversation with them. I wouldnt know how to go about making freinds with someone, all the freinds that iv had have made freinds with me. I dunno if that makes much sense. Gav Re: Hello!!! I hope going to college is a heck of a lot cheaper for you than it ever has been for me. " Making friends " has never worked for me. What works is becoming involved in a long-term project that interests me (and the other people working on it) very, very much. The focus has to be on what we are *doing*. And it has to last a long time. That way, the other people have a chance to get to know me (without focusing on me in particular) through what I am able to contribute to the project. My " quirks " / " differences " are not so important to them in a situation like that as they are in a purely social situation where the only activity is " making friends. " For me, going to college did NOT provide any way to make friends. I never spoke to anyone outside class. Jane

Was that you or someone else? Would you be going to college for a specific course of study in which you are interested? I started college right after high school (in the U.S.; I was 17 years old) with no idea of the future at all and no notion of why I was going to college. Unsurprisingly, it didn't work. I wasn't prepared for the level of independent initiative required, so I just drifted until I had a chance to drop out. Finally finished my BA when I was 44. Since you have more self-knowledge than I did, and you're older than I was when I first tried college, chances are your experience will be very different (and better).
