Guest guest
Dear Laramee, Ron Moen, ADA BoD and constituents, Thank you for the Jan/Feb 2005 ADA Times. It was nice to read the background of how the ADA's Nominating Committee choses the candidates amongst those nominated. As a male dietitian, I have been following the ADA Diversity actions with great interest. Last I read, males make up less than 3 percent of the ADA Membership. I am unaware of the breakdown concerning minority makeup within the ADA. However, since Diversity has been such a hot topic within the ADA, I found it amazing that of the 40 people (candidates) profiled for the upcoming election, there were only one male (2.5% of the electorate) and one African American (also 2.5% of the electorate) with 39 of the individuals apparently being Caucasians (97.5%). I am not sure if this is diversity in action. Can the Nominating Board ( H. Wooldridge et al) please explain to us why if Diversity is so important to the ADA, that the elections do not appear to reflect this?
