Hi Glitter,

I am interested in trying to differentiate between my hep c symptoms and SSRIs. Brain fog is v. much part of the hep c picture and I recently discovered that the latest research states that hep c leads on to insulin resistance and I think weight gain can be part of this.

Do you any info on the precise cause of SSRI-related brain fog??? Maybe what I have been putting down to liver problems is actually to do with SSRIs.

Ta.

Hi, Mo: I don't know much about the side effects of Hep C -- although I do know several people who have it (besides you) and none have ever complained of brain fog. In fact, the three people I know who have Hep C function normally and seem to have no impairments directly related to their illness. Specifically, I don't know what causes the SSRI brain fog -- I would suspect it is a combo of things -- damage to the myelin sheaths, disruption in neurotransmitters, and in some cases, the frying of certain nerve endings (quite literally, as stated in other medical journals) -- SSRIs do NOT just affect the brain -- they have bad effects on every system in the body, on every hormone, and every organ. If you didn;t have brain fog BEFORE you took SSRIs, then I would not blame the Hep C but rather the varied drugs that you took. But when comes back, she will probably have a more detailed explanation for this occurrence. There is probably something in the archives because this has been a frequent question over the years.

thanks Glitter. Probably a combo of things has led to the downfall of my brain... your friends are not unusual, it takes 10-20 years for the symptoms to show and even then, in some people, the symptoms can be minimal. I am at the other ened of the spectrum I am afraid with severe symptoms. Yet they did not show for 20 years with me. I am addressing the insulin resistance as that is bound to affect the old brain too. Thanks again Mo -- Re: brain fog, weight gain Do you any info on the precise cause of SSRI-related brain fog???
