I opened it without a problem, Jan, but if you wish to, and have permission to post it, feel free to use my webpage to post it.

Hi Digna,

Well, I have permission to "share with RD colleagues" so, I think, since I cannot send it to the ADA listserv. . . either I let them slide, since they aren't bright enough to be ON this list.. ha. . .

Or, we post it for 2 days only (Friday/work day and Saturday-home day) . . . anybody that wants it will have only that time to find it. . . thus, it will hardly be 'available to the general public.' (And, it will direct some traffic to your website, by RDs, as well.)

What do you think? And, if I do post it, how do I do that. . . as a pdf file.

Jan

Re: Food "Addiction"-original research article attached

Hi all,"Ask and you shall receive; Seek and you shall find."I was very interested in the original research on this (still haven't read it tho) and managed to find the email of the original researcher with an online search. So, I wrote and requested an original article of the research to SHARE with my RD colleagues. Here it is, attached (pdf/adobe file) . . . now if I just get the time to read it. Looking forward to any discussion it may bring up.Jan PatenaudePS. If it doesn't go through as an attachment, anybody have ideas for posting it to a website for a day or two? Having worked with "Food Addicts Anonymous" (support group that follows the same 12 steps and traditions as AA and NA) members many years ago, it's nice to see research that supports what we already 'suspect' is true. Results of a new study suggest that you really may be addicted to your favorite foods. Researchers at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, N.Y., used PET scans of the brain to see what happens when normal, hungry men and women see or smell their favorite foods. Results show that the foods provoke the same reactions in the brain as those seen among cocaine addicts who are anticipating their next high. The study participants were first asked about their favorite foods. Then they were given a taste via a cotton swab impregnated with the food. Their brain scans revealed that this sampling triggered an increase in brain metabolism, principally in the areas associated with addiction. The researchers theorized that brain sensitivity to food stimuli added to near-constant exposure to food via advertising, vending machines, and food displays in stores might contribute to the current epidemic of obesity in the United States. The new findings were published in the April 2004 issue of the journal NeuroImage.

Post it, of course, and then let everyone know in the "smart" listserve where to go.

I think you can post as a document. Go ahead and join. I'll open the membership so I don't have to approve 100 people at one time and everyone who wants to read it can go in and download it since the time is limited. Otherwise I'd have to approve each member and it may take more time. Only for the reason we were getting spammed with pretty nasty stuff. Then you can go into Documents on the left column, and follow the instructions which are very simple (if I can do it anyone can do it).

I can also send a message to all 305 members letting them know the document is available for them to access and read. can you post a message in the rd-usa list also?
