Guest guest
About Iron, It's Vitamin C you take with iron to make it absorb and you never take it with other meds or calcium. I have learned this over many years of combatting borderline anemia. I am very interested to find out if this wls procedure will help with the iron or make it harder to deal with. I found some Nature Plus Chewable Iron from Vitamin Shoppe for 11.20 for 3 months. It has other stuff in with it like rosehips and herbs and tastes pretty good. Here is what the Whole Health MD says on the subject. http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/substances_view/1,1525,10148,00.html Special Tips: --To boost the amount of iron your body absorbs, take the supplement with small amounts of meat or with foods and drinks rich in vitamin C, such as broccoli or orange juice. For the same reasons, it's also smart to take an iron supplement along with your daily multivitamin. Vitamin A and the trace mineral molybdenum also aid iron absorption. --Have your doctor test your blood levels in a month or two; never take iron for more than six months without retesting, so that iron overload can be avoided. # For iron deficiency anemia, ask your doctor about the most appropriate dose for your needs. Guidelines for Use # Take iron supplements with meals to minimize the chance of stomach upset. Taking the supplement with traditional breakfast foods may not be the best choice, however; even though vitamin C enhances iron absorption, coffee can interfere with it. Soy protein isolates, often used in fruit " smoothies, " can also reduce iron absorption. # Calcium as well as large doses of chromium can interfere with iron absorption, so take these supplements at least two hours apart from iron. I love the Whole Health MD site, you can search by any food or supplement and they recipes they give all have nutritional breakdowns: http://www.wholehealthmd.com/ Enjoy, Gracie
