Guest guest
I can vouge (sp) for the bone loss as a result of using birth control. I was on the depo provera shot for nearly 4 years, when just last year the FDA came out with a "black box label" warning women that if they used depo for more than 2 years it could result in significant bone loss. My OBGYN suggested that I have a bone density test last year and sure enough I have significant bone loss in my hips, I AM 22 that should not be happening!! I have since been taking calcium and vitamin D supplements, but it is a scary thing. I have since changed my birth control methods, but reading some of this has me concerned. Thanks for the info!michele Wininger <sea_shell81@...> wrote: I dont know if any of your woman do birth control but her are some articles that are very interesting. Guest guest
, Be sure that your calcium supplement includes one part Magnesium for every two parts calcium . . . 20% of the body's Magnesium is tied up in the bones . . . Calcium provides bone density, Magnesium provides bone strength. . . . Very important. . . A depletion in Magnesium also plays a big role in Fibromyalgia and sleep disturbances! . . . I take those viactiv chews, I will have to check the label. Do you have any reccomendations as to what I should take, brand, etc? Guest guest
, http://www.magnesiumresearchlab.com/ This website can tell you more than I ever could . . . Dr. Mannsman has info to take your doctors. . . I credit him with saving me when my feet were burning so badly (Erythromelalgia) . . . I just upped my magnesium intake because of the post-cancer medication I'm taking. . . It brought on all the EM problems, but magnified and expanded. IT'S WORKING! Glory, glory! I swear by Garden of Life Living Calcium . . . but that can get expensive when one needs so much! Apparently the Citracal Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc I started yesterday is effective too. According to Dr. Mannsman, you can keep upping Calcium/magnesium until you get diarrhea . . . However, IMHO, if you take a product like Garden of Life, your body absorbs it better and you don't need as much. Hugs, Rogene

Guest guest
Be careful with those Viactive chews that you are not buying a flavored kind with the hydrogenated oils. I used to buy them when I was diagnosed with osteopenia in my spine, because I wasn't eating any dairy products. But I found that there was only one flavor that didn't have the partially hydrogenated oils in them, and I think it was the plain chocolate or something like that. I gave up the Viactive when I started buying raw milk products. I know that I am getting all the available calcium with raw dairy, and I am much happier going the food route than the supplement route. Just be sure to read your labels well! Guest guest
Also, Viactive chews have Calcium Carbonate, which is hard to digest for women over 30 and not of much benefit to us. We need different forms of calcium once we pass 30 years of age. Guest guest
This is all some pretty scary stuff. Why is this stuff on the market if it isn't benefiting women? Guest guest
I think it is Calcium Citrate that is the most easily absorbed and digested. Most calcium citrate supplements come in smaller incremental dosages (meaning you probably will dosages in the 100mg- 300 mg range instead of 1000 mg or more). If you want to get at least 1000 or 1500 mg a day, you will just need to take a few more pills, but you will be getting the easiest form for your body to use.
