Kathy,

You are an amazingly strong, emotionally healthy woman and I am so

impressed by you. Many people around me have felt threatened by the

fact that Ive gotten smaller than them, and am more energetic. I

know because they have made rude comments, (or just cut me out of

their life like my sister), or shown me other ways that they are

unhappy that Im now healthier than they are. They aren't doing this

intentionally, but are reacting to the somehow indirect suggestion

that their own negative talk says to them that they should feel

badly or have failed themselves in some way...even tho it has

NOTHING to do with them at all. Instead, you have embraced,

supported and dealt with journey your sweet Rich has been on and

rather than personalizing it into negative self talk, you've choosen

to accept and deal with it in a positive manner. What an amazingly

hard thing to do. I know you are on the path to your own surgery and

I can see just how emotionally healthy and ready you are to go

through this great undertaking. Im VERY Excited for you because you

are sure to succeed in your journey also because you have the right

attitude and expectations about it. I think you should give yourself

a big hug. Im proud of you :-)

This one is definitely a 'keeper' - but you knew that already! Seriously

this is a prime example of 'you reap what you sow'. Having followed your

messages since day 1 on the other board I know that you gave Rich the

best possible love, care and support throughout his recovery. Now he is

returning that to you. You truly deserve one another!

Here's hoping your surgery happens soon and the two of you can continue

your wonderful relationship in the best of health!

Role Reversals

It is very strange to me to have this role reversal that has

happened over the past 4+ months between Rich and I. Rich was the

severely morbidly obese one who had no energy, who got winded and

broke out in a sweat walking from the house to the car, who needed a

cart to walk at the market, etc.

Now some 21 weeks later...I weigh more than Rich. At one time, he

weighed 200 lbs more than me. I weigh 5 lbs more than him for the

moment. I'm battling all sorts of physical demons...upper

respiratory crud that doesn't want to leave me alone and then the

disk problems in my lower back which yielded sciatica in both legs

for a while. I cannot stand long in one spot. Physical therapy has

helped.

Rich is a totally and utter gem. He is patient with me and

extraordinarily kind. He " picks up the slack " and was doing all the

laundry and household stuff that I was unable to do - not that he

didn't do some of this beforehand anyway. He'd give me a talking

when I tried to do too much.

While we are " newlyweds " , there hasn't been much action in town and

he isn't troubled for even one second. He says " just wait "

and " you'll get yours later " with a gleam in his eye. He is waiting

and hoping that I'll be able to get WLS too - " then you are in

trouble, my dear " he says. LOL.

Anyway, it is just interesting how things have changed in a few

months.
