Guest guest
I am having the sleeping problems too. Was up at 4:00 and then went back to sleep at 6:00 and totally wiped out at 8:30. I cannot do this when school/work starts again. Luckily I have the summer off. Should I switch from HC to pred, so I can take a dose before surgery and not have to worry about taking it the day of surgery? Maybe I am interpreting the rules too strictly but the doc says no fluids 12 hours before surgery. My dentist chastised me cause I said "If I survive the surgery". I guess the reading on adrenal failure and death from shock got to me. It is a ridiculous attitude since it is totally elective surgery (lower face lift). So why do it if I worry I might not survive the anesthesia. Weird tricks my mind can play sometimes.
Guest guest
often it would be best to get thyroid problems under control before any surgery. This is due to the fact that we just don't heal right with hypo! I think if I was to have an elective surgery while on HC I would simply take an extra 20-30 MG right before I went in for it. That is called stress dosing and would work better for you than Pred. Also would be a good idea to have someone (hubby or friend or relative) with some HC waiting for when you wake up if you should feel shaky or nauseas. -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
I plan to take the extra HC. My surgery is in the afternoon so I guess I will have to take the HC in the morning without water. No water 12 hours before surgery!! But more specifically, you do not recommend going to pred for a while so I won't have to worry about frequent dosing during that time? -- Re: sleeping, surgery often it would be best to get thyroid problems under control before any surgery. Guest guest
Sorry : I see your mention of pred. My doctors sure do not seem to be worried about anything! -- Re: sleeping, surgery often it would be best to get thyroid problems under control before any surgery. Guest guest
>>But more specifically, you do not recommend going to pred for a while so I won't have to worry about frequent dosing during that time? << Medication changes are just more stress on your body to adapt to. You could take 5-10MG Pred WITH your HC as your stress dose though, but not knowing ahead of time how your body would react to it, I think I would just Take the HC. You should take it right before you go to surgery though as close to that time as possible. Remember it is there and gone in four hours. -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
I will do that. I just do not like that the doc who prescribed the HC is not concerned about the surgery, at all. The surgeon has not clue. He did call my doc but my doc said he wanted me in the hyperbaric chamber the days before and after surgery. Great idea since that really speeds healing and kills off bacteria that may increase due to weakening from surgery. So I have to be my own doc. I will be alone with the surgery so I will have to remember to take it right before and after. -- Re: sleeping, surgery >>But more specifically, you do not recommend going to pred for a while so I won't have to worry about frequent dosing during that time? << Medication changes are just more stress on your body to adapt to. Guest guest
Valeria: I think I will try a bit of pred now. I will take a tiny dose and see how I do. My surgery is in 3 weeks and that would remove one worry from my mind. I will start with half of a half of a 5 mg pill and see how I feel. That way I can dose with 5 or 10 mg and not worry. Why do doctors not want anyone using pred or cortisone with surgery? Perhaps it is due to huge doses some people can be on? -- Re: sleeping, surgery >>But more specifically, you do not recommend going to pred for a while so I won't have to worry about frequent dosing during that time? << Medication changes are just more stress on your body to adapt to. Guest guest
Because when your body is dependent on a certain dose of either, and you need ALOT more for the stress of surgery your body cannot produce it. This brings in a risk of shock due to low Cortisol that they do not like to deal with, especially for an elective surgery. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
but as long as I dose up on HC and pred, I should be OK? I tried the small amount of pred today, that i mentioned and I feel good. Just got a bit hungry!! -- Re: sleeping, surgery Because when your body is dependent on a certain dose of either, and you need ALOT more for the stress of surgery your body cannot produce it. Guest guest
>>but as long as I dose up on HC and pred, I should be OK?<< I would think for that kind of surgery you would be fine. It is not something like surgery on an organ that would really demand 200-300 times the cortisol. -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
