Guest guest
Jacque- It was wonderful to hear your news about Austin's hearing! Now... for the school problems... I'm so sorry to hear that it's come to a real conflict. It is so discouraging! I hope that you get what Austin needs without *too* much fighting. Guest guest
Jacque, I can't believe the school would not recommend summer program. This is mandatory if your child is in need of this. The only thing you will have to prove is that if your child does not have the summer program they will fall behind and loose everything that has been taught during the school year. It is the school that needs to make sure every child is benefiting. If they offer a summer program, then you are eligable. Get an advocate that knows the laws for " special children " . We did and it really helped. She went with us to all the ARD meetings. This helped us because we did not know exactly what rights Aubree had. We wanted to make sure she was taught to the best of her ability. They even had a new teacher come in that is teaching life skills. This is a wonderful program and Aubree has really enjoyed it. Let me know if you need an advocate, I can probably steer you in the right direction. Guest guest
I think schools everywhere got together at some meeting this year and decided to give us problems about summer programs. We're in the middle of a battle with 's. Maybe it's in the water? Guest guest
Our school districts idea of ESY is 4 weeks, half days of crafts and such. They have recommended both my boys attend it.. Sheeshe... ya'll can imagine what I told them about that one. Told them they would get more of an education from the three week trip we are taking to Houston this summer. Both boys are helping plan the route, looking up things they would like to stop and see, figuring mileage. I have Ken figuring out approxamatly where we will have to fuel up.. they have camping guides to help decided where we will stay each night. The big dicussion now is whether we go further south and do LegoLand on the way (like the guys wants) or Vegas (like Mom wants) <G> A bit more of an education than four weeks of crafts and games ...
