This may be a very basic question but I am not a financial coordinator and like I said am new to the Transplant finance piece of things. Here is my question. Can any pre-transplant charges be charged to non-Medicare insurances or do all pre-transplant charges go the KA account? From the reading I’m doing it makes me think Medicare requires that all pre-transplant charges go to the KA Account regardless of type of insurance? But if Medicare is only reimbursing for the Medicare portion on the cost report why wouldn’t they allow billing of non-Medicare insurance for pre-transplant charges?
