Guest guest
Hi Nef, From my experience, I have found that patients can qualify for Medicare disability when they list " immuno-compromised " as the reason. Usually just a diagnosis of cancer is not sufficient to be approved for disability. Hope this helps. Therefore, I would like to pose a question about eligibility. I know the 3 qualifying factors are as follows: > > > 1. Over 65 (age) > > 2. ESRD > > 3. Disabled > > My question is about the disabled criteria. I am familiar with the typical situations that would qualify. But what about cancer? Lots of the Leukemia pts battle this disease for years...in and out of remission. Do any of you have experience with pts having cancer and qualifying for Medicare? > > Thank you, > Nef > > Neferteria D. Guest guest
Lupus does not automatically qualify a patient for Medicare. The patient could apply for Social Security Disability and if they are deemed disabled because of their disease, they would qualify. Guest guest
I have a patient who had a kidney transplant in 2010. She is not eligible because she only worked 2 years. When she turns 65, I would assume she would still not be eligible, correct?
Guest guest
I think if she goes back to work and has enough credits she can get medicare at 65, but it will not cover transplant medications because medicare was not involved in paying for the transplant. thats how I understand it Patti Montemayor, RN CCTC Transplant Coordinator and White Hospital 2401 S. 31st Street Temple, TX 76508 254/724-8448 FAX 254/724-8772 >>> " Robin " 5/16/2011 9:33 AM >>> I have a patient who had a kidney transplant in 2010. Guest guest
Depends on how old she is now. If she works and gets enough quarters then she would be eligible for Medicare.
