This seems better since he's been on meds for ADHD type behaviors, not focusing well in school, being distracted etc. We tried Ritalin (grudgingly) and hated it. He is now on Anafranil and Adderal (it is a hard balancing act between dopamine/seratonin imbalances) GOOD luck! Things are much better for us now. I haven't heard too much of anything good about ritalin. i haven't taken him yet(grudgingly procrastinating!) It's kind of up to us at the moment, but i know he would probably need something for concentration in school though. thanks again.. debbie and regan. We don't have a dog, but he is immediately drawn to every dog he sees, and has two doggy puppets that he absolutely adores. He is also aways signing " dog, " and his favorite book has a picture of a bunch of puppies in it. I'm going to have to consider getting him a dog soon! It was real hard for me to agree to it. I felt like such a failure! But now it's so much easier for him to sit still and focus. He does have some learning disabilities on top of everything else so it was doubly hard for him. I think the nervous system while very versatile also must be accutely sensitive (in loon populations as well as humans). Ann, I noticed in one of the websites related to the possible strep/obsessive compulsive connection that the National Institute of Mental Health people who were looking into this were welcoming Canadian patients. The information was from 1997 I believe, so I'll have to look again and see what more recent research is doing. The first time I gave Kendra Anafranil I also gave her an antibiotic as she was diagnosed with an ear infection that day. The results for Kendra were very dramatic and very immediate. However, as she is on a low dose of Anafranil there are still some obsessive/compulsive behaviors such as looking to see if automatic doors at the market have closed behind her and so on. I've sent for information and I'm curious to see what treatments could help with this. I talked with a friend and she is attending a meeting in Orlando this weekend that may have some information on this topic. I'll pass along anything I learn from her. She said that one problem is that the strp germ goes " stealth " and the body's immune system becomes unable to detect it and try to get rid of it. There are effective treatments though. keedy@...
