The bone density test is easy - no pain involved at all. There, does that ease your fears!!!! I have had it done 2-3 times. They will check the density in your spine and also one of your hips. When it was done during my pre-transplant eval. they did my wrist also which they said they do if the person is small boned. Along with this they did a 24 hour urine test to see how I am absorbing calcium (along with other things). None of it is painful and is very informative.

Love,

Barby

You lay on a table that must work sort of like an x-ray - it sees through to your bones and can tell if you have lost any density in your femoral head for example. I don't understand the machine or how it works but it is painless - much easier than a mammogram. :)

I saw my new liver doctor this past week and he was

very interested in the fact that I had had a tumor

removed off my spine. In the mail today was a request

that a schedule a bone density test and also to have

Vitamin D and K blood test done.

Ok, I know others have talked about the bone density

testing, but, what does the test involve?? (do you

detect a hint of wimp?...if you do, you are very

perceptive!)

My prayers to all who are ailing this Easter Weekend.

I've had several bone density tests done, and they're about the easiest

test I've had... the simple ones, you just have to take off your shoe

and put your foot in a little device and hold still for a few seconds,

and then you take it out again, and put your sho back on! I actually

don't remember what exactly they did when I had the more comprehensive

one done... it was a few years ago. I think I basically lay on a table

in different positions and held still while they did the scan... sort of

like with a regular x-ray.

I was tempted to say that they rammed a huge needle right into your

thigh bone without any anesthesia, but I decided that would be too

cruel! :-)

Hi, ya'll - another 4 hours in the er - again, not psc

related...my son was scootering (without wrist guards)

and crashed. No stitches, but he did get a tetunus

booster...

I know I'm bad at welcoming new folks, sorry and

welcome, and also at responding to needs. I do have a

white board over my computer that has prayer needs on

it...even though I'm not good about saying so, you all

do get put on there in writing.

We got Art's latest blood work back. *Everything* is

in the normal range, except for one alkaline

(something) the albium is normal, biliruben,

proteins...The nurse wouldn't give me exact numbers

because Art hasn't signed the proper release form yet.

We'll see the ct scan next Thursday. I knew that the

labs would look better if he was taking a normal dose

of actigall, but they backed him *way* off after the

nasty side effects, he was only taking 300 mg. one

time a day when he had the blood work done, and that

was only for a week, he had not taken it for 2 weeks

prior to that.

so, I guess that's good...

:-) Ellen

And *then* I forgot what I was going to say -

the mammogram gets a little more difficult when it's

your pastor's wife doing it (I found out today). Pam

is our pastor's wife and 's Sunday School

teacher. had tagged along - we walked to the

hospital and were planning on walking the rest of the

way to Art's office to take the car shopping...Pam

took her into the dark room and let her help develop

the films and let her put her hand in the machine to

see what it did...

Ellen,

I had a really bad reaction to Actigall when my doctor double my dosage from 4 a day to 8 a day. Had to go on a strong dose of prednisone to calm down the hives and swelling. What side effects did he have? Isn't he uncomfortable not taking the Actigall? I itch really bad if I don't take it like I'm supposed to.

Beverly, Good question, I don't really know the answer

why. I am assuming because this disease as well as Uc

robs us of calcium but that is just my guess.I am

hoping someone else with more technical knowledge can

answer that one.
