Guest guest
Hello All, I am currently reading a very interesting and helpful book called, " If You Had Controlling Parents...How to Make Peace With Your Past and Take Your Place in the World " . I just wanted to put the title out there because I am finding it so helpful. I also wanted to ask if anyone had suggestions. I am not focusing on learning about BPD at this point as I am in learning how to set boundaries, reprogram my " internalized parents " , and generally reclaim my self. Thanks for any suggestions. Guest guest
No real suggestions. The only thing w/boundaries is being able to follow through w/consequences. I've learned I can set a million and one boundaries w/nada but they come to naught if I fail to follow through w/consequences and most times tie them back to HER behavior. Just my two cents. Boundaries are awesome though when in place and working:) Kerrie > > Hello All, > I am currently reading a very interesting and helpful book called, " If You > Had Controlling Parents...How to Make Peace With Your Past and Take Your > Place in the World " . > I just wanted to put the title out there because I am finding it so helpful. The way the exercises are laid out, as you learn about BDP you also learn about how you see things and ways to bring these exercises into the real world. You may want to check it out. Guest guest
Tucan, Besides SWOE and UBM, I greatly benefited from assertiveness training, which helped me to learn boundaries. One great book for that is Dr. Manual ’s “When I Say No, I Feel Guilty”. It gives specific response examples to manipulation attempts. As well, Suzette Elgin’s “The Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense”. They worked for me. Also, transactional analysis books, such as Berne’s “Games People Play”, and Dr. ’ “I’m OK, You’re OK” were VERY helpful for telling me what was going on in typical communications. Dr. Wayne Dyer’s books are very informative and inspirational.
