Guest guest
Hi ,It is normal, unfortunately. There is a program that one of the other TFC’s probably remember the name of that gives grants to Living Donors if they meet certain requirements.Hope this helps,Thanks,Bill From: TxFinancialCoordinators [mailto:TxFinancialCoordinators ] On Behalf Of Fetzer, Sent: Monday, April 04, 2011 3:32 PMTo: TxFinancialCoordinators Subject: Living donor benefits for travel/lodging? Hello, I have a living donor who is traveling well over 100 miles each way to get here for testing and for the surgery. She asked if the recipient's insurance covered travel and lodging for her as well since she's coming so far, but they told me they do not--only the recipient is entitled to travel/lodging benefits. Is there normal and is there any other way to assist the donor with travel/lodging? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks much! Guest guest
Some of our patients have done fundraising to help the recipient and the living donor with uncovered costs such as donor travel, child care at home while away for donation, etc.. It might be something for your recipient and family to consider. Barbara Cochrane Transplant Financial Coordinator Mercy Medical Center—Des Moines bcochrane@... Guest guest
I have successfully used this program a number of times. NLDAC staff have been very helpful with any questions. The assistance (grants through HRSA) is based on both recipient and donor income categories. The on line application process has been quite easy and quick to use.
