Guest guest
How can I get copies of my psychiatric records from doctors who either do not respond to requests, say they will send records and then never do, or will not send records for my own good because they might be 'damaging' to me? Do I have any legal recourse I got my records when I was involved in a personal injury lawsuit -- the reason they won't give them to you is that they tell the most outrageous lies -- no matter what you say they write down something different and give it a new spin. I don't know how you would get these records unless you had a lawyer get them for you. They generally don't release them because yes, they would be damaging to you because you'd see how they betrayed you. You may have to fill out a form and pay a nominal fee for copying (usually $10-$15). If a physician does not act in a timely fashion or refuses, you have recourse. Look up HIPAA on Google and you'll see a number of resources for it. Regards,
Guest guest
HIPPA says 'you have the right to inspect and copy your protected health information. Under federal law, however, you may not inspect or copy the following records; psychotherapy notes; information compiled in reasonable anticipation of, or use in, a civil, criminal, or administrative action or proceeding, and protected health information that is subject to law that prohibits access to protected health information.' > >> How can I get copies of my psychiatric records from doctors who >> either do not respond to requests, say they will send records and >> then never do, or will not send records for my own good because >they >> might be 'damaging' to me? Guest guest
Dear , You said: > > I was trying to get records from psychiatrists who have 'treated' me, > I have been coerced into seeing a psychiatrist for most of my life > since I was 14. ** I think it's important to note that you could be coerced before the age of 18 but after that you did have choice. I realize this is not a popular thing to say to people but I think these are important things to recognize. You stated in another email that a certain psychiatrist was responsible for partially ruining your life. As long as we believe someone else can be controlling us we are in the position as being victims and not having any control over our lives. In reality, this is not true. We are co-creators of our lives. As co-creators, we are in charge of everything. Ask yourself what can a person walking my path learn from it? Why would a person walk this path? The answers may not come easily but there are answers to this that will put you back in charge and get you out of the role of victim and into a position to heal. We all have chosen some difficult things to learn and ways of learning them at one time or another. No one is any better than anyone else. WE're all here to learn.
