Please see the message below from Dr. Koh, the U.S. Department of Health and

Human Services’ (HHS’s) Assistant Secretary for Health.

Have a great day!

Fred

April is National Donate Life Month, a

good time to register as a donor. Visit organdonor.gov

today and click on ‘Becoming

a Donor’ to register in your state.

April

is National Donate Life Month, time to remember that each one of us has the

opportunity to give the gift of life. Please take 2 minutes of your time

to view this video and

share it with your friends and family.

Then,

take another 3 minutes to sign up in your state as an organ, eye and tissue

donor at organdonor.gov,

and tell your friends and family to do the same. By saying

“yes” to donation, you are offering hope to the 110,000 men, women,

and children waiting for a second chance.

We

can celebrate many gifts in this world. Encourage your family and friends to

choose organ donation and give the greatest gifts of all – hope and

life.

K. Koh, M.D., M.P.H.

Assistant Secretary for Health

Take 5 Minutes to Save a Life

Dear All:

Another lesser known but just as important

need is to be a bone marrow donor. Be The Match is the National Marrow Registry

program. Often people only learn about it when they or their loved one is in

desperate need. But we can all participate, simply and without cost, by

swabbing a cheek sample and sending it in the mailer they provide. Ethnic and

racial minorities are particularly at risk for not having a donor identified,

and unlike organs, bone marrow matching is very precise. Out of 8 million

donors, only 2 matched a child in my care, and 1 was in Germany. If

selected, it is as simple as a blood donation. As a health disparity effort,

please join Be The Match!

Thank you,

Jennie McLaurin
