Edd, I understand with your background in the police, but what you say must be

not the worst,

but extreme case scenario. And who say that we should begin holding our holiday

toghether?

I choose to believe in the good in people until the opposite may have been

proven. Yes, some

people are sick, but I believe that the majority of the human family is moderate

people with non-extreme attitudes and that only a few people would take so

extreme measures to threatning to kill somebody - even

if it was because of his wife.

We don't have to meet. And it is not a marriage center, but a group for sick

people suffering from diabetes.

Don't you agree that most people are good people. There are maniacs as

Milosevic and others that use violence when they can't achieve their goals in an

honourable way. But still, I think that this is out in the extreme - maybe not

in the environment where you worked - was it with criminals etc?

As for women from the group sending me their pictures to be uploaded to the site

- yes! - and I will share it with my wife that I love very much. We know each

other and our friendship/relationship. No problem!

Summa summarum, I don't think that the possibility of such a scenario should

avoid us from taking such an initiative. And I don't plan to enhance this

initiative with more than I said in my first mail: 1. a chat board 2. a picture

with a short describtion of the person with type of diabetes etc.

Finally, Edd, thank you very much for your contribution to the list since you

joined it. You has a lot to share. Thank you for your input and have a great

day.

Best regards

I think this is a great idea! It will give us a bit

of background on the people we are talking to. (and in

some cases, put a face to a name!)

Yes, chat feature would be fun...but I'm having problems making enough time

just to read the stuff on this list, don't know how much more time I can

spare on the 'puter for chat...Vicki

Count me out .

I once belonged to a chat group on the old Prodigy service. About a dozen

of us met at Disney World, Orlando, Florida. Unbeknown to some of us two of

the group became " close. " Unfortunately, they were both married to other

people. One woman's husband threatened to hunt down and murder one of the

guys. Bad karma.

Let's take a worse case scenario, . Let's say that you are not a

diabetic but a sick individual: Do we want to see some of the women in this

group sending you their photo, name address, etc. Sorry, but fifteen years

of working with police and sheriff's offices has made me cynical.

It is unfortunate that we live in such times.

Mr. Edd

Take good care of the kid in you.

Hope you make out ok . As to the chat/pics/personal info; I agree

with you that it is not a problem when handled correctly. I have also

seen the stuff that Ed has seen, but believe that if personal

information is handled right there won't be any problems. I don't need

another wife or girlfriend as my present wife is a keeper. I do feel

that personal address information should not be given out to anyone in

any way but personal email.

Dear fellow member, Your idea of chatting to others is a super idea. &

the posibilities of being able to see a face is even better. It;s great

to be able to pair the name with an actual face. This group is just what

I needed. I was dx 6 weeks ago, D II & saw my Dr. for the first time

today. So happy he thought I needed no meds & i LOST 3 POUNDS this week

with just concentration on lowering the carbs. He told me to purchase 2

books which could be my bible. One is by Pennington, Food Values &

portions commonly used & the other was Sugarbusters. I,m going to lick

this setback like I have many before in my life. One day at a time.

Thanks to all of you you have spurred me on to succeed.

just concentration on lowering the carbs. He told me to purchase 2 books

which could be my bible. One is by Pennington, Food Values &

portions commonly used & the other was Sugarbusters .. >>

That is " Splenda " ... errr ... splendid news! Please hang in there - and

keep reporting on your progress. Here are some other aids:

To download a nifty free Food Composition program, go to

http://www.siestasoftware.com

Go to http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl to do online

searches of the USDA Food Nutrient Dabatases.

For meal planning, making up grocery shopping lists, etc., a very complete

and well-designed web site is " Meals For You " : http://www.mymenus.com/

You can pick any category, then you can sort it by any of several items,

including carbohydrate.

Another really fun as well as quite informative food site is

http://www.epicurious.com.

Look at this -

http://food.epicurious.com/db/dictionary/terms/f/fats_and.html - from their

Dictionary section:

FATS AND OILS -- There are myriad culinary uses for fats and oils

including cooking, tenderizing baked goods and adding richness, texture and

flavor to foods. Fat is one of the body's basic nutrients, providing energy

by furnishing CALORIES. All forms of fat are made up of a combination of

fatty acids, which are the building blocks of fats much as amino acids are

the building blocks of PROTEINS. Fats and oils are either saturated or

unsaturated, the latter classification being broken down into

monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. To illustrate the difference

between the terms saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated, picture a

fat molecule as a train of passenger cars (carbon atoms). If every seat on

the train is filled by a " passenger " (hydrogen atom), then this is a

saturated fat molecule. If there's one seat open in each car where a

hydrogen-atom " passenger " can sit, the molecule is monounsaturated ; if

there are several seats available, it's polyunsaturated . In general,

saturated fats come from animal sources and are solid enough to hold their

shape at room temperature (about 70°F). Exceptions to this rule are tropical

oils such as COCONUT oil and PALM oil, which, though of plant origin, are

semisolid at room temperature and highly saturated. Saturated fats are the

nutritional " bad guys " because they're known to be associated with some

forms of cancer and to increase cholesterol levels, which can be a

contributing factor to heart disease. In addition to the two aforementioned

tropical oils, the most commonly commercially used saturated fats are

BUTTER, LARD, SUET and hydrogenated vegetable oils such as MARGARINE and

VEGETABLE SHORTENING. Hydrogenated (or partially hydrogenated) oils have

been chemically transformed from their normal liquid state (at room

temperature) into solids. During the hydrogenation procedure extra hydrogen

atoms are pumped into unsaturated fat. This process creates trans fatty

acids, converting the mixture into a saturated fat and obliterating any

benefits it had as a polyunsaturate. Some researchers believe that

hydrogenated oils may actually be more damaging than regular saturated fats

for those limiting cholesterol in their diets. Unsaturated fats are derived

primarily from plants and are liquid (in the form of an oil) at room

temperature. Generally speaking, oils are composed (in varying percentages)

of both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Monounsaturated fats are

known to help reduce the levels of LDL (the bad) cholesterol. The three most

widely used oils that are high in monounsaturates are OLIVE OIL, CANOLA OIL

and PEANUT OIL. Polyunsaturated fats are also considered relatively healthy

and include the following, ranked in order, most to least, of

polyunsaturates: SAFFLOWER OIL, SOYBEAN OIL, CORN OIL and SESAME OIL.

Omega-3 oils are a particular classification of fatty acids found in some

plants (such as FLAX SEED) and in the tissues of all sea creatures. These

special polyunsaturated oils have been found to be particularly beneficial

to coronary health (purportedly lowering the bad LDL cholesterol and

elevating the good HDL) as well as to brain growth and development. Among

the popular fish that are particularly good sources of Omega-3 oil (in order

of importance) are sardines, herring, mackerel, bluefish, tuna, salmon,

pilchard, butterfish and pompano. High cooking temperatures can destroy

almost half the Omega-3 in fish, whereas microwave cooking doesn't appear to

have an adverse effect on it. Canned tuna packed in water is a quick and

easy way for many people to get their Omega-3 oil, but it's worth noting

that combining it with the fat in mayonnaise offsets any positive effects.

Canned salmon and sardines are also excellent Omega-3 sources. Storing fats

and oils. Saturated fats such as butter, margarine and lard should be

tightly wrapped and refrigerated. They can usually be stored this way for up

to 2 weeks. Hydrogenated vegetable shortening can be stored, tightly

covered, at room temperature for up to 3 months. Refined oils, sealed

airtight, can be stored on the kitchen shelf up to 2 months. Oils with a

high proportion of monounsatu-rates — such as olive oil and peanut oil — are

more perishable and should be refrigerated if kept longer than a month. See

also ALMOND OIL; ANIMAL FAT; CHILI OIL; COCOA BUTTER; COTTONSEED OIL; FAT

SUBSTITUTES; GRAPESEED OIL; GREASE; HAZELNUT OIL; MILK FAT; OILS; PUMPKIN

SEED OIL; SUNFLOWER SEED OIL; TRANS FATTY ACIDS; WALNUT OIL.
