Guest guest
A number of different ideas for national " advocacy " have been mentioned for the organization to consider. We won't be able to take them all on. I think that an outcome of the discussion needs to be some focus on one area. There could be a focus on influencing policy of those with money and power to help make small practices more sustainable. To do that, we would need to broaden our membership efforts to include a lot of small practices. There could be a focus on practice management help -- software and purchasing and such, but we are all so varied, it may be difficult to find the helpful common threads. Perhaps that leads us to talk of trying to move to some sorts of commonalities as part of an IMP standard? I'd vote for the discussion to start with the aforementioned brainstorming session and then see which ideas bubble to the top. The answers could affect the whole organization, marketing, how membership is handled, etc. Haresch > > We are talking about advocacy /how IMP as an organization might help small > practices nationally? > or we are talking about common issues we might all have and what approaches > there are- perhaps just to establish a group or thread that follows this > And we are talking about ho w is since she hasn;t been heard from > in a while > that's a start > Several people had some good ideas start a concversation > MAria, I think and Eckhardt and some others- we should maybe > sit down together and see wher e things go? > How';s that? Guest guest
What about this idea??? Let's create a good looking PDF like doc for our patients, many of whom already get it, that is why they are our patients in the first place... And allow them to contribute modest amounts to an IMP like PAC? I know that Gordon and I have discussed the concept of a PAC, separate from the actual Not-4-Profit, because that would make it safer for the mother group to stay safe as it advocates for things in a political like forum.... Us to for those of us who are in the black (if only, I wish!), as well as perhaps a low cost "Patient Level" membership, with more palitable materials designed for patients to assist them in seeing how the Medical Industrial Complex is so rigged against their favorite little solo, and or IMP like practice??? Something like $15 dollars or so should be enough... Can we have two different groups of membership, the professional side for those actually involved in the medical business, be they staff, student or docs' and then another track totally separate for our patients and other non-medical, consumer level, social advocates??? This could easily increase our numbers by goodness only knows how much fold... Right??? Then we could have separate meetings run by member volunteers in their local areas regions, as well as professional. We could even attend as guest speakers from time to time in support of various issues that we are knowledgable in, like me business and insurance, one of you docs about patient centered care, so and so forth.... And we could have joint get togethers as well... I just think that as long as we are separate from our larger consumer patients, the less clout we will ever have, because we are still those PIA, noisey greedy doctors (yes even as we advocate for a new and better way of paying and doing business.. Their is a resented, snobby reputation to overcome from the expensive private practices as opposed to our great healthcare at working class prices...). We need the support and the much increased numbers of our consumer patients... And the Employers too. We need guys like Mr Perdue (It takes a tough man to make a tender Chicken... to join our ranks in advocating for major changes the remove or greatly diminish the true greed in the system.. Almost everyone other than the frontline, primary care providers... And we all know who those piggies at the trough really are so no need to list them here now. With a joint organization, like a political action committee or other similar thing, more than one if really needed legally or otherwise, this is the way to gain strength in numbers as well as credibility because now like some of these corporate supported, false grassroots organizations (they are serving TEA right about now for example) as I like to call them, the new term is they are "Astro-Turf" because they pretend to be just average folks, they use their money and influence to get normal folks to come out and ralley for their conservative, big business like issues, with Orwellian names that hint that they are pro enviornment when in fact they advocate for less pollution regulations and the like, and to not regulate gas and water pollution releases and the like on big business... So let's steal one from their playbook, and create a great sounding grassroots organization with our already in the fold patients and families, that would then join and support us in doing more of the same and advocating for it.... Makes sense to me.... To: Sent: Thu, August 26, 2010 10:57:32 AMSubject: Re: CAMP /advocacy A number of different ideas for national "advocacy" have been mentioned for the organization to consider.
