There are several times on third shift (due to staffing shortage) that we have to have one dispatcher working. Therefore when both lines ring like Annette said, you can't just not answer one of them. And we also do EMD. Yes....it does make for some hectic moments; I won't deny that. However on third shift, we are normally not very busy anyway and the officers are pretty good to know when we are obviously busy. I think I would have a hard time not doing EMD. It would be hard for me to work for an agency that just got the name, location, call back number, and the problem and then said, " Thanks sir, the ambulance is on the way. Sorry about your luck. <click> " (of course I'm being sinfully sarcastic here). I would have a hard time doing that. Maybe that's because I sometimes get too personally involved in some of the calls??? But is that a bad thing?? How do agencies out there that don't have EMD end the call? Or do you stay on the line for emotional support until the ambulance gets there? Just curious......that's all. -------------------------------------------------------------- Cain 9-1-1 Dispatcher Randolph County Communications 155 East South Street Winchester, Indiana 47394 mcain@...
