What exactly does magnesium supplements do? I have been told that

Paxil depletes magnesium. But what adverse reactions does this

shortage cause in relation to anxiety, etc?

** This is the short answer.

Magnesium is a cofactor to over 300 enzyme reactions in the body. It

is necessary for the transmission of nerve impulses, muscular activity,

temperature regulation, detoxification reactions, and the formation of

healthy bones and teeth. It is a cofactor for oxidative phosphorylation in

the production of ATP(energy production), and plays a crucial role in the

synthesis of DNA and RNA.

It is required for the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, as

well as activity related to calcium, phosphorus, and Vit C.

OK so how would magnesium deficiency manifest itself in relation to

those taking SSRIs as opposed to those not taking SSRIs. I am trying

to determine why it is specifically recommended for patients on

SSRIs. There must be some particular symptoms it counter-acts...
