They will not give me any pain meds....and at night my right leg and left hand

are so painful.  Is this something that a paid med dr can help me with?  Might

it take me off the transplant list?

Lots of hugs and kisses to everyone.

Sure hope that pain medication starts to work for you soon.

Nerve pain can be tremendous. Try to take deep slow breaths.

Sometimes, breathing shallowly tightens the muscles more and

causes even more pain. I hope you start to feel better soon...

bless your heart.

Though I have seen some people recieve a prescription for narcotic pain meds, (

the only safe for the liver pain meds are the narcotic ones, sorry) from a GP,

or PCP doctor, it is not advisable. The legal implications for the patient as

well as the doctor these days is enormous, and as my pain doc says all the time,

I dont look good in an orange jumpsuit. It's best to leave up to a pain medicine

doctor. Not pain management, as any doctor can do pain management, but pain

medicine is different. Pain is a separate disease, and the medical community is

now recognizing pain as a malignant , and potentially life threatening disease,

which requires a host of treatment options. Sharon has used many of them.

Acupuncture is not one she has tried, but Ardis used to swear by it. Wishing you

a less painful day, hun. Love, Bobby

Abijann - tell everybody that he beat you up. When I leave the hospital, I

am usually bruises all over. Ed won't let me take off my hospital bracelet

until we get home, because I love to tell people in restaurants and stores

that he beat me up. After you do it once, you make a trade off with him,

you won't tell people he beats you if he doesn't give you such a bad time

about falling. Jan H

I'm sorry you are feeling lonely. I wish I lived closer to you, and I would

come and spend time with you. You can always call me if you want.

I hope your headaches get better too.

Yes, I gave them both and my transplant doctor also wrote a letter.

My doctor in Florida said it was easier to get on SSDI if you told them it was

mental.  Isn't this disease also mental?  Seems like it to me.  I go to the SSDI

doctor on July 2.  I am okay with everyday expenses right now but worry about

the medication after transplant.

Thanks for your sharing......You are so great!

Lots of hugs and kisses to everyone.

Does Social Security know that you are on the transplant list for

both a kidney and a liver transplant? A letter wrote by your doctor

stating this, should get you approved for Social Security. I would

give them a copy of the letter and keep the original for yourself.

LOL...I tried to add you to my list of freinds...I try to keep w/ 2 different

sites (I have vacterl syndrome also). That's an awful lot to read on my own.

Would you mind adding me. I don't have many freinds. Since I found out I had

this disease I pretty much keep to myself. I don't want to have to explain to

new people the " drama " in my life.

Tannya - We laugh on here a lot. And, you do have lots of friends,

everybody on this list becomes instant friends and family. A while back I

asked for responses to people who ask you how you're doing, or say you are

looking pretty good. I received a number of them . One was " I make liver

disease look pretty good don't I? " Another, " I don't look too bad for

having a fatal disease, do I? " There were others too, which I can't

remember right now, memory is bad short term and selective long term.

Tomorrow I will probably remember some others and forget the two I

remembered here. Or someone else will fill you in on some others. I truly

believe that laughter makes us live longer and for me it makes me feel

better at the moment I am laughing. Of course, if I spend a night with

friends laughing about lots of things including laughing (laughing about

laughing) I am especially tired and even sore the next day. But, I can take

the day off or I wouldn't schedule an evening like that. People have called

me a walking miracle and I give the credit to God and to my ability to laugh

at almost any time, which he probably gave me too. Please realize that I

was leaning on my hand while rereading this since my typing and spelling as

well as thinking skills are less than they used to be. Just composing

emails like this is draining and the hand holds up my head for a short rest.

Now I am going to put my body in my recliner to give it some rest. Have to

do some shopping and going out to eat tonight. Jan H

I am not going to lie...this is very difficult. I've known about my disease for

2 years but not knowing how bad or what to expect has been the worst. My memory

is'nt like it used to be...and I could'nt explain it. In fact I used to have a

great memory. Now the running joke between my husband and I is he will ask ME to

remind him of something and I just reiterate it right then and there. I have

told several times I can't remember what he tells me to remind him off. I don't

rememeber appointments, conversations, events....which at times really surprizes

me. Especially the appointments. If I write them down I forget where I put them.

Now I am to understand this may get worse???

I don't have a doctor telling me what to expect. If I don't feel right

physically, I go to the emergency room. They give me pain medicine...sometimes

admit me for a week at a time but I learn nothing new about my condition. When I

was last in hospital I was there for 2 weeks. They kept me b/c of my ammonia

level. Before then...I knew nothing about a body making ammonia and burning

brain cells.

Sometimes I am afraid to learn more.

Tannya - is there any way you can qualify for some type of state or county

insurance? I have a very low income so I qualify and thus I am alive 5

years after I was told I would die. I too have the memory problems you

mention. I live in a town where the average age is 67, and everybody tries

to tell me it is just age. I am 65. But you don't change as quick as I did

just because you get a year or two older. My grandson had brain surgery 3

years ago. At that time he had insurance, but he doesn't have that insurance

now, it was only for people under 21. He is getting symptoms similar to

what he had before the surgery so he has had to work fewer hours so he

qualifies for the same low income state insurance I have.

I have a friend from high school who had had a kidney transplant last year.

She didn't want to go online and research the possibilities, the problems,

the recovery, etc. I did a lot of research and after a while when she was

waiting for her transplant, I let her know that I had found out a lot of

info. So, she gradually started asking me questions. If I didn't do the

research on my various diseases, I would probably be a nervous wreck. But

then researching and wanting to know things, anything, is part of my

personality I guess. Probably why I worked as a reporter for awhile.

When I do search and find something interesting, I bookmark it and have it

available in my favorites under medical. I don't expect that I will

remember everything which caused me to want to keep it in the first place.

Some times I print out especially interesting articles, but usually can't

find them when I want to read them again.

Have you ever used a planner or an organizer? I would never make a dr. appt

if I didn't have mine. I write all my appointments in the calendar, with

notation of who it is with, the address and telephone number and sometimes

the fax if they indicate I will need that. It also makes it easier with all

my dr. appts not to book two appts in two different towns at the same time.

I also have all my doctors listed on a special page in my phone directory.

I can't remember the meds I take to say nothing of the dosage so I have a

sheet I carry with me which lists them all, dosage and how often taken. The

sheet also has supplements doctors have suggested I take, and I would

suggest that anyone who does this notes why they were supposed to take them.

I have all my medical conditions listed, all my surgeries and procedures,

my family history and all the doctors currently seeing with their phone

numbers in case the doctor whose office I am in wants to consult with one of

the others. This all takes about a page and 1/2, and all the staff in the

doctor's office and the doctors really like it. I update it as needed.

Especially for someone going to an emergency room it is really nice to

have. I started mine on the advice of an ER doctor.

The more you learn the more you can do to help yourself. Has anyone told

you to eat a low protein diet. You mentioned high ammonia levels. That

could be caused by protein. How were you diagnosed with cirrhosis? Have

you had a biopsy? If so, what stage did they say you were in? What led the

doctors to suspect you might have cirrhosis? You really need to get some

insurance coverage and get a regular liver specialist to find out where you

stand. Some of your symptoms are familiar to all of us, some to just a few

and could be caused by something else if you haven't had a biopsy. Jan H

Do you take Kristalose or lactilose?  They helps to move the toxins out of your

body and it has really helped my memory.

Lots of hugs and kisses to everyone.

I have sitting in my spare bedroom my 21 year old grandson who is now about

6 ft, and a healthy weight. He was born a month premature, weighed 4 pounds

13 ounces when he was born, gained two ounces before he left the hospital,

Was so short we could put his head in our hands and his butt and legs at

the elbow. My daughter was working when he was born, so I went to school in

the morning. came home on the bus, she got on and handed me the baby.

Sometimes I took him shopping when I had to pick up some things, and the

amazing thing is that it was the older men who would pull on their wives

arms and tell them they had to come over and see this tiny little baby.

Less than 5 pounds 21 years ago was very serious, but he just didn't let

anybody stop him ( he was a preemie because he kicked his foot through into

the birth canal), and he had caught up before he was 6 months old. Now they

know a lot more than they knew then to help these little ones. Jan H

ohhh lyncia so excited for you a new gandbay to love. now she is being lifted

up,prayers and faith. let me share with you about preemies,Harlie was born at 27

weeks erica was toxic and they were both dying, she had to be delivered.she

weighded 1 lb. 8 oz. ,she had no apgar score,no anything, they saved her not

once but 3 times, she stayed at the nicu at vanderbuilt for 3 months, she came

home on my birthday...what a great present huh?!i remember the first time i saw

her i gasped i could see thru her ,she was soooo tiny ,wires everywhere,i was

scared ,i thought how can this tiny thing live....GOD thats how,HE watches over

them and us. there is a picture of Harlie and me in my photo album, take a look,

shes my heart i love her dearly, maybe because of her rough start maybe cause

shes so angelic but mostly shes just her ...my miracle grandbaby. it did take

her awhile to catch up, she was neg. 3 months in age for several yrs,and we

enrolled her in a program called FIRST STEPS. they would come to my house and

teach her to sign cause she wouldnt talk ,they said she had autism, then said no

maybe shes just on the wheel somewhere. well let me tell you,she proved all

those drs. wrong, at 5 yrs. old shes smart as a whip, and her last IEP from

school says she right on her targeted age group. so as one of her nurses told us

at vandy most preemies will outgrow their preemiturity by 6 yrs old and she

has.i praise GOD everyday for his mercy and love.now she does have chronic lung

disease from under devoploped lungs but she gets her meds. daily and had 2

inhalers and will be re-evaluated soon to see if she needs all these meds.

still. Now i tell you all this ,because sometimes drs. can scare the hell out of

us and not knowing is even scarier, i wanted you to know that it is possably to

be born early and be a normal happy healthy thriving child. Hallie is in good

hands GODS and these wonderful nicu drs.!! she will be in my thoughts and

prayers constantly please keep me posted...i love her already, much love barby---

Congratulations on your new granddaughter. In April my niece gave birth to

twins that were 3 lbs each. They are now doing wonderful and keeping her very

busy.

Will keep Hallie in my prayers.

Thanks.......no update on Hally.  My son has stayed with his wife and he won't

talk about the baby yet....only that the doctors are taking care of her.....In

the " Olden " days, I would have been there to visit.  My other son is taking off

on Friday to take me to see the baby.

Lots of hugs and kisses to everyone.
