I was on Seroxat initially for severe depression. I had been on a number of drugs prviously dothiepin, anafranil, anti physychotic drugs in hospital. I had a period of about two years off the drug before I started them again. Suffering from anxiety and panic attacks, lots of stress at work, moving house, lots of work needed doing on house. I have now secured a less stressful job and the house is slowly getting there. I didnt feel particularly depressed at the start.

I have always had very bad pmt from being a teenager, but om different forms, sometimes weepy, sometimes aggressive, but not anxious and panicky. i also suffer from very bad night sweats when my period is due because of the menopause.

What would helpwould be to not take the drug. These types of drugs manipulate neurotransmitters. Someneurotransmitters, like serotonin, affect estrogen. When you alterserotonin in your body with Seroxat you are also altering estrogen. Whenyou alter serotonin youn are actually altering your entire hormonal system. I look forward to your responses. You could cut the pill in half that will give you 2 x10mg then take one of those and try to quarter it that way you will get close leave out one of the little quarters that makes 171/2mg.Or dissolve the other half in water cathrine knows more about this.

I have started to taper off the Seroxat as from Wednesday, did not take one, took 20 on Thursday, 10mg on Friday and 20 today. Not sure if I am going about this the right way, feel very anxious today, had to take 5mg diazapam. Can you advise me of the best course of action to take. Alos started my period which hasnt helped because I always feel dreadful physically and very emotional just want to stay in bedroom out of the way.

** In my experience, this is not a good way to do it. You're yanking

your chemistry all over the place. A slow, gradual withdrawal will work

best.

Try cutting down to 18 mg. Take it daily. WAit until you feel okay, then

cut down 2 more mg. In the meantime, get some nutrients into your body.

Take a look in our FILES for suggestions on vitamins, minerals, magnesium,

and calcium.

psychotropic drugs. I will pit my knowledge of these drugs, their effects

on the neurological system, and natural medicine to address these problems

against anyone else's knowledge.

I'm curious why you joined the group f you are so sceptical about natural

medicine. The front page of our group site states:

" Our focus is on withdrawal and recovery utilizing nutrients, homeopathy,

flower essences, a few herbs (most are not suited to those in early

recovery), and proper diet as medicine. We also explore and support

emotional and spiritual health. "

I'm not going to try to convince you of the value of natural medicine. I

stopped that many years ago. Honestly, it seems like a no-brainer to me.

The nutrients upon which the human body relies upon for life when depleted

by pharmaceutical drugs causes people to become ill. Replacing these

nutrients in therapeutic doses (hospitals do it all the time with pediatric

and geriatric populations) helps the body recover from the damage it has

incurred.

** Okay - natural medicine for sleeping - stop taking drugs that damage

the circadian rhythms and keep you from sleeping.

To stop smoking - make a chart. Write doen each time you smoke for two

days. After that, average out how much you smoke a day. Then dole them out

to yourself according to a schedule you've made up to get in all the

cigarettes during the time you are awake. It may be that you smoke 1 every

half hour. Do that according to the schedule for a week. Don't smoke

except on schedule. At the second week, add 10 min. more onto the time

between smokes. Do this for the entire week. The following week and all

subsequent weeks add 5 min. to the time in between cigarettes. It's a

relatively painless way to quit.

Regarding the insomina - there is cause and effect and there is no magic.

If you damage circadian rhythms there is no magic pill that will make you

sleep. The goal would be to stop taking all the drugs that do this and

restore your nervous system with substances that help with this. You may

never sleep well again but you'll sleep better than you do. This is the

nature of having taken drugs like this. Most people don't sleep well

afterwards for quite a while.

Stop looking for quick fixes. That's what got you to where you are today.
