Dear Terry,

<<Hello all...I have a new sleep problem. I am now waking up 6 or

SEVEN times a night with severe hot flashes. I am sleeping with the

windows open and a fan going FULL blast in 35 to 45 degree weather.

I am not getting good sleep anymore. I might as well be taking the

antidepressants again b/c this is what was happening then, too.

Is there ANYTHING I can do other than tough it out?

My life is SO complicated right now with state audits at work and my

soon to be adopted daughter visiting every other weekend. I am sorry

I am unable to be online to read and contribute anymore>>

** Stress may be the biggest cause of this right now but it is also

possible that your body is doing more adjusting to being off the drugs.

This is not unusual.

What are you doing right now for supplements?

...I was sleeping MUCH better off the drugs until the hot

flashes started. They are REALLY BAD. It feels like my bed is on

fire and I have to either get up or make sure there are no covers

touching me. Yes, I am under a lot of stress. Some days my brain is

SO TIGHT it is almost unbearable. I AM concentrating better believe

it or not.

I am taking the total body toddy, mineral toddy, the fish oils, the

inositol and the calcium and magnesium (separately) and some vit. C.

The hot flases are definitely menopause but I never realized they

could be SO SEVERE and SO OFTEN. I am also still so disappointed

that I have done this to myself (the drug damage).

** You are sure it is menopausal symptoms so let's address it that way.

Your symptoms could be worsened because of the alterations done to your

serotonergic system affecting your hormonal function.

Let's talk about melatonin. I know we've mentioned it on the list before

but I don't recall if anyone reported having tried it. If you want to try

it (for sleeping and helps with hormones) begin low at 0.5 mg.

Other things that help with menopausal symptoms, hot flashes in

particular, are:

Black Cohosh (20 mg to 60 mg, 3 times daily). This is a phytoestrogen that

helps many women manage menopause symptoms. There are a number of Black

Cohosh products on the market for menopause including Remifemin.

Vitamin E - 800-1200 mg. nightly, helps reduce hot flashes and night

sweats )Cal and mag, too).

Evening Primrose Oil (500 mg 3 or 4 times daily)

Dong Quai (500 mg to 1000 mg, 2 or 3 times daily).

These will more than likely take time to work but they will help.

Regards,

Vitamin C (1,000 mg to 2,000 mg daily) helps absorption of Vitamin E.

...Thank you so much for the info. I am going to see about

trying some of them. Yes, I am CERTAIN it is menopause as I now have

no periods and will be 49 next month.

My soon to be adopted daughter is visiting every other weekend and my

home has become a teen hangout on Fri. and Sat. nights. Life is very

interesting but I am exhausted after weekends now. I slept like I

was DEAD last night after returning her to the group home. I woke up

only 4 times VERY briefly with hot flashes. I was too tired to care

how hot I was. LOL!!!

I have tried melatonin before (while on drugs) and it had no effect.

However, I will now try it again and see if there is a difference.

Again, thank you for your time on my behalf. I AM better. Now I do

go back to sleep when I wake up unlike before when I would lay awake

all night. My concentration IS better.

Later..Terry
