- I definitely understand where you were coming from, and I

think it's a great idea. I don't think the result of my explant is

unattractive, either, and the scars are the result of the hardest

lesson I've ever learned. We've got some pretty great perspectives

here, and we all bring something to the table.

Cherie, I like the idea about using any proceeds towards helping

women with explants, or coming up with brochures. Just don't know

where we'd place the brochures, since most doctors won't acknowledge

that implants make women sick - might have to brainstorm that.

College campuses, maybe?

Cherie,

Silicone gel implants are just as dangerous, with

slightly different twists . . . Overall, our problems

aren't that much different. I had silicone gel

implants for 16 years. . . I believe that I'm

fortunate to have recovered to the extent that I have.

Many women who had the old gel implants are very

seriously ill, or dead, now. IMHO, if the " new " gels

are approved, it's just a matter of time before

history repeats itself.

One group I was with considered funding explants . . .

The problem that is difficult to surmount is that of

responsibility. . . First you need a non-profit status

.. . . That's doable because there are already some

non-profits dedicated to implants. . . Secondly

determining who gets the money is a sticky issue since

the need is great but proving need is difficult. The

toughest issue is how to convince people that the

entire effort is honest and that their money will be

spent wisely with so many scams out there.

Some women who have taken on this task have been

brutally maligned. Ilena is a prime example.

Rogene

I think the photographer you're talking about is Ann

Stansel . . She was in D.C. with us protesting the

FDA's decision - We carried posters with her photos.

She does beautiful work.

She's a very lovely lady herself!

I think Lana's offer of promoting the book would fit

in well with her ad . . . Lana and Beth said they were

getting 400 hits a day on their ads.

The book could be sold over cost on ebay. The money

could be used to pay for putting free books on

highschool and college campuses . . . Some churches

might be interested in placing them too.

If you haven't seen Lana's ad . .. go to www.ebay.com

and do a search for " OMG I found weapons of mass

destruction "

Oooh so much to think about - you ladies are very smart. Rogene, I

definitely know the silicone are more dangerous, I just meant that

most are aware of the silicone dangers, whereas everyone is told

that saline implants are safe and would be surprised to learn from

so many of us that they are not. Sorry for the confusion.

My brain fog is just too bad to think about so many issues with

funding and non profit issues - I think maybe for me I should just

stick with starting with my small world of spreading the word - by

the way, I told one more friend tonight at dinner!

One at a time - most people never even knew I had implants,

including my mother - and that's the next person I need to get the

courage to tell. She worries so much about my health, and I have

not been honest with her in telling her about my implants. I have

hidden it from her for so long.

Cherie,

I'm guessing that, when you start telling people about

your implant experience, not only will you feel a

sense of relief, but you'll find that your

relationship with them is closer than before.

Rogene, I think that sounds like a very practical solution to the

issue. The main purpose is to get people thinking, and since you've

seen alot more than those of us who are new to the group, your input

is quite valuable.

Cherie, the way I'm getting the word out is by answering questions

on the pro-implant sites (I'm very careful, I only respond to those

who are having health issues and are looking for help, and I just

give them my e-mail address in most cases). Once they respond, I

let them know about this site, and let them decide for themselves.

I do tell my story to them, too. My mother knows I got implants,

but she doesn't know I got them out, and she doesn't know much about

my illness - I've told her at times that my joints are sore, little

things like that, but I have not told her why. The reason is

because she worries alot, and that worry makes her physically ill.

I've got an alcoholic sister who provides alot of drama.

Cherie, I have decided to just swallow my pride and tell everyone. Including those who didn't know I had implants and those who are sensitive to the idea. I have found so far, not one person has denied my pain. Shockingly everyone has accepted my story and was extremely courious. I have answered questions to the best of my ability and that is all I can do. I think these "one on one" story sharing times are the times that will make the most difference to people's lives. You are a strong woman and I know you have a powerful story of healing to share, you can do it. Cherie <cheriesut@...> wrote: Oooh so much to think about - you ladies are very smart. You are sooooooo right! . . . If there's anyone who

can't handle it, it's their loss! . . . It may be

someone in their family who needs to know. I can't

tell you how many times I've mentioned breast implants

and been told of women (and children) who were sick

after implants.

Thank you Rogene, Yesterday, I went to my old weekend shift at the Nursing Home. I had to come out and tell the girls (I had worked with for years ) why I became sick and could not work with them anymore. None of them even knew I had implants. I never "flaunted" my figure, and scrubs were baggy so they covered most curves. The girls were great, I showed them some information I had printed out and explained how I found you ladies. Some had expressed how they had wished to one day "enhance". One girl shared that two of her sisters have already gotten implants and she asked for info to give to them, so they know what to watch for. It is amazing how receptive women can be if you talk to them personally. They feel part of your story if they share a tear or two with you. My daughter works at a nursing home too . . . A number

of the staff have implants, and some are quite ill . .

.. She's tried talking to them, referring them to me.

But their doctors tell them that breast implants are

safe!

Thanks Norma,

I'm so sorry you're still suffering . . . Twenty nine

years is a very long time to have implants! . . .

Is there anything we can help you with? . . . I'm a

firm believer in never giving up! . . . The body has

incredible healing capabilities - if we give it what

it needs!

Hugs and prayers,

Rogene
