Guest guest
I only watched a few shows back in the spring around my surgery date time. Parents cancelled their sat. tv service... so the channel pickings there on the home front were slim to say the least. I was ready to move my DISH service there so I could continue my HBO addiction. I have always hated what pageants represent. I am more for corporate brains and just plain common sense issues. I am happy that the girls on the show get transformed. Still, how many of us still have same issues even when we lose weight? Being beautiful doesn't mean life's problems blow away in the wind. I think it sends a bad message to America's youth. But doesn't most tv do that? Alisa B wrote: > > Evening girlie girls (and Alfie!) > > Ok, I confess...that's my guilty pleasure. Guest guest
Darn it - I didn't know it was The Pageant last night. I watched all the first series but this series was in conflict with something my hubby likes to watch, so I only saw it a couple of times. I always wonder how they cover all the scars so well in The Pageant. Some of those girls get so much PS at the same time and they couldn't possibly be all healed up in 3 months. My new reality addiction is Project Runway. I managed to order one of the winning dresses from the last show. They only made 200 of them. Goodness knows if it will look even half decent on me, but if not I might be able to make a couple of cents on Ebay, as it is such a limited edition. Carol Anyone watch " The Swan " ? Evening girlie girls (and Alfie!) Ok, I confess...that's my guilty pleasure. I've never really been one to watch reality shows much less beauty pageants...but something about that show struck a nerve deep inside of me. I think it's the fact that I am finally, FINALLY really transforming myself and am more comfortable with this than ever before. I've been watching faithfully and my money was on this beautiful woman named De. De is in the Army Reserves as an officer, and her husband had their divorce papers served while she was in The Swan. She was rather " manly " --in the sense that, as she admitted, she had let herself become more military and less feminine. Her transformation inside and out was incredible. Something tells me her ex is gonna be PISSED!! Tonight's show was the pageant and she was clearly the frontrunner from the time she first stepped out. But when she came out in her swim suit--WOW! All I could say was I wanna look like that! LOL. I've got a few years on her but it did remind me to keep my eyes on the prize. So tomorrow's workouts at work and at the gym are gonna be that tougher! Now fess up girls...would you become a " Swan " (once you were at goal or close to goal)? I know I would--there's no doubt in my mind that I would do it! Guest guest
I watched the show several times and I cry like a blubbering slob everytime. It strickes a nerve with me also. Myself and my daughter were glued to the TV. Amazing! That could be us too. I am amazed by their bodies the most. Makes me want my tummy tuck after all. Trust me..I have plenty of loose skin and saggy girls they could work on. But as with these girls, the transformation has already started from within on me. Im so glad De won. She deserved it...hard road and she took us all along with her through it as her life changed for us..both emotionally and physically! Amazing! Guest guest
That's why this show is a guilty pleasure. I was telling my RT group Sat and the leader said she was surprised that I would watch it (she's known me for almost 3 yrs!). I think what attracts me to the show is the transformation. I can relate to some of the things that some of these women go through. The facial hair agony, the feelings of low self-worth...sure, these women are beautiful outside only, but some of them have managed to look inside and start the work there. There are a LOT of WLSers who even refuse to consider that they have self esteem issues, or that they, now that they're at their goal weights, are no longer fat/obese/etc. What's worse is that we've seen some women who've taken this to the far extreme...they've gone from one eating disorder to another and are hospitalized because of what they've done to themselves. The show to me isn't geared to children by any means. But there are shows on MTV (which I don't watch) that are...now those scare me--16 yr olds who want to " look " like a star? > I only watched a few shows back in the spring around my surgery date > time. Guest guest
Kat I know...there are a few that have made me tear up. I think one of the women I ID'ed with was the young girl who had to shave! Ugh...don't let me ever fall into a lot of money or something because I am sooooo gonna get lasered!!!!! > > I watched the show several times and I cry like a blubbering slob > everytime. Guest guest
AMEN! She has to be the biggest shocker to me yet. I actually screamed when she had her first reveal! My daughter came running into the room and we have been stuck on the show since..that is when Im home on Monday evenings. I have to wax my top lip...swear I have a mustache I didn't have in my 20s if I dont. :-| Oh well..I could have hair growing out of my forehead but I don't. When I get money..Im buying new BOOBS! UGH I would kill for new ones before Nov 6th 2005. I put on my last wedding dress, and the skin folded over the top. Granted it was 2 sizes too small but still..Im going to have to stuff to even look remotely normal lol For me, the swan is partially about the physical change and partially about the life journeys of these people who had become adults and had no self esteem. All of them carry baggage on their shoulders in life for one reason or another. I was so glad when De WON! I was even happier when she got her DIVORCE papers BEFORE the reveal. Serves that bastage right! Now the hearing impaired girl who has been emotionally abused by her spouse also..she should up and leave his sorry ass too..but I did see him there smiling and supporting her last night. I hope he sees his sorry ass ways. Kat
Guest guest
Please know this is my opinion and in no way am I disrespecting anyone's feeling on this show. I just have very strong feelings - all negative - about The Swan <g>. In truth, I loathe this show. I watched most of the first season - almost until the pageant - and something(s) kept bothering me. I finally realized it's how disingenuous everyone is. When they show the reaction shots of the staff - the trainer, the dentist, the therapist, Neely, etc. right before the reveal, I found it very staged and very fake. They smile, they pretend to have a tear in their eye, they ow and ah and it's just not sincere, IMO. It is so cloying. The woman who stands at the mirror with the women has a really strong accent in the beginning and then it seems to vanish as the show goes on toward the end. Watching these women in front of the covered mirror while she says, " Anytime you are ready. Ready? " is not suspenseful to me, but annoying. I don't think they do these women any favors with the DaVinci veneers, the hair extensions, way too much plastic surgery, and the awful outfits they put them in at the reveal. The women don't look real and it's really disturbing to me - they don't look natural and they almost all look alike with big fake teeth and too much plastic surgery. One reviewer said they look like men in bad drag and I kind of agree - okay, I agree a lot <g>. I read a magazine article that showed some of the women months later - they wanted to know how their lives were and if they were keeping up their new look. One picture of one of the women was almost scary - I almost thought it was a before picture and then I realized it was an after shot. I also don't think the message they send is a healthy message - change your outside to some standard of beauty we've imposed on American women and life will be great. Sure, they talk about changing your inside and gaining self-respect and self- esteem, but I think they only do it because they know some want to hear it. Neely (I think this is her name), the creator, says she has had nothing done and then finally admitted to Botox. I think she has had a lot more done - her face looks very plastic and not real. I often like Extreme Makeover when they take people with often severe facial problems and do enough to help them and give them a natural look. I love Extreme Makeover Home Edition - very touching and heartwarming stories. I just think The Swan goes way too far and sends the wrong message. Okay, with all that said, please, I repeat, know this is only my feelings on The Swan. I respect those of you that like it, I truly do. I own my feelings and they are strong ones, but I would never dis anyone for liking it because I don't. Individuality makes the world go 'round - thank goodness! My dream is to do Survivor (if I could get medical clearance). To show this once 325# Jewish American Princess (JAP for short) could rough it and keep up, etc. When I reach goal, I am going to ask my surgeon what she thinks and if she says she would clear me medically, I am going to audition for it. I hate to fly, I hate snakes, and if there is no room service, I consider it roughing it <g>. So, to fly hours on a plane to a foreign place, have to sleep outside with snakes, etc., would do more for me as an individual than The Swan ever could - it's what I need to prove to myself. Now you all know my innermost fantasy - to be on Survivor (and not be the first one voted off)! Hugs to all and please no tomato throwing <g>!! Guest guest
<<just say what you think victoria:-)>> Not a problem for me, believe me <g>. <<albsolutely LOVE to see whan someone just says what they mean no coy playing around to get to the point... LOL>> LOL! That's me! I admit I can be very opinionated, but I always own my feelings and thoughts as my own and I don't try and impose them on anyone. I state my stuff as opionions and not as facts - there is such a huge difference. I will always respect someone else's opinion - even if vastly different from mine. <<LOVE YA and HUGS>> Back at ya'!
