Guest guest
Good Morning: Phoenix Children’s Hospital provides pediatric transplant services here in Arizona for BMT and Kidney, and we are partnered with Mayo for adult services. Our state operates it’s Medicaid program as a waiver program. All Medicaid is covered through an elaborate and well-developed Managed Care System. Unfortunately, because our state has been drastically affected by so many budget short-falls, cuts were made in some of the high $ services here. Unfortunately, adults were targeted, as many of the children’s programs are protected under federal regulations. Feel free to view the actual published document that outlines the level of reductions made in Arizona through the AHCCCS program ( Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System). http://www.azahcccs.gov/reporting/Downloads/MedicaidStatePlan/Amendments/2010/SPA10-006_Approval.pdf Our Kids Care program (our version of SCHIP) was capped earlier in the year, so as many as 50,000+ children that would have had access to healthcare coverage with family incomes up to 200% of FPL, no longer have the opportunity for coverage. Many other services were cut, including reimbursement to all AHCCCS healthcare providers and additional cuts will continue with this fiscal year. & nb sp; Please feel free to read up on Arizona’s Medicaid functionality, design and challenges at www.azahcccs.gov Have a nice day, Shari Bowman, CPhT Manager, Transplant Financial Services Phoenix Children's Hospital 1919 E. I’m not aware of the background prompting the changes but have worked with Dr. Andy Yeager who is quoted in the articl e and found him to be a very intelligent, sensible, and dedicated physician. I would value your opinions on this development in general, and specifically from anyone in Arizona. I sense there is more to the story, and I hope this isn't the start of a trend.
