Glad it went well, Cosima. I am sure that your soreness will lessen after

a few days.

It must be a relief to have it over.

Congratulations on your explant Cosima! I hope you are feeling a

great sense of relief to have it over. Now you can focus on just

getting better, and with Dr. Kolb as your surgeon, you have an

expert on your side to help you through the worst of it. She is

very knowledgeable.

I am not going to hold my breath on the class action suit for

salines. I think Dr. Pierre Blais told me the same thing back in

1999 or so....and I know there have been rumblings about it here and

there. I hope it does come to pass, but I think we've got to lay

alot of groundwork before we can have great hopes of prevailing in

court. Those manufacturers have learned their way around those

courtrooms very well and the litigation is extremely costly and

ugly. They stop at nothing to have their way, and you are right

about the silicone class action; most women have not seen so much as

a dime because the conditions to be met were very complex,

complicating to the doctors, and have been so drawn out that many

women died before they could even get compensated. However, Lynda

knows a heck of alot more about that lawsuit than I do. I just

think it was a travesty of justice fraught with obfuscation, denial

and deceit. Ugh.

Anyway, you are done! They're gone! That's a liberating feeling!

What a way to start a new year! Congratulations and best wishes for

quick healing!

Hugs,

Patty

I have heard for years about a class action for salines, still waiting. If

they approve silicone again, it may make it much harder for a class action

for saline implants.

There are many women who have received a settlement on their claims for

silicone implants. I have friends who have settled.

Cosima - Congratulations, you've gotten through a major hurdle by

having the surgery. Now you can concentrate on healing. I'm glad

to hear that you're not in alot of pain - I found the explant alot

less painful than the implants. I think there are a few things that

can make us sick when it comes to implants - the implant itself is

made up of a bunch of different chemicals, including silicone and

from what I understand platinum. I think that's what made me sick,

because I reacted to my implants immediately. Even if your implants

didn't appear to be leaking, sometimes the valve is faulty - and

even though they appeared clear, there could still have been micro-

organisms floating around in there. Implants are a foreign body,

and I believe that our bodies try to destroy the invader and it must

throw everything off when it can't get rid of it, and I definitely

believe the chemicals used in the manufacture of these devices is

toxic to our bodies. My sister said " just think about what happens

when you get a splinter in your finger, or something gets trapped in

your tooth " . Thanks for keeping us posted.

the only hurdle i guess i'm trying to get over now is how to take a

bath. i have one of those shower massage thingies but when i've tried

to use it i end up squirting myself in the face with it. i guess i

need to practice a little more.i'm not supposed to wash under the

bandage so all i can get is from the waist down and maybe my arms if

i'm lucky. but i can't do any of that until i can use my arms more

without discomfort.oh well, i like a challenge anyway.

Cosima, I just filled the tub halfway and took a half bath. Then I

washed my underarms separately in the sink. I wasn't told not to

lift my arms over my head, though, and I washed my hair in the sink,

too. My husband couldn't look at the drains or the contents of

them, luckily it didn't bother me to look at them or empty them. I

just received a call from Dr. Kolb's office, because I had spoken to

her originally when I was looking for a doctor, and they were

following up to see what my status was. It was between her and Dr.

Feng, and the reason I chose Dr. Feng was because I didn't have to

fly in order to get to her. I have a phobia about flying and

figured I didn't need the extra stress. I felt they were both

equally capable, although I liked the holistic approach that Dr.

Kolb takes.

Cosmia,

Congradulations on your explant . . . It sounds like

you should start feeling better soon!

I think Dr. Kolb is refering to the defective valves

that were used in saline implants . . . even after the

manufacturer's knew they were defective. I'm glad to

hear there is one in the works!

Most of the women who had gel implants prior to 1992

have either settled, or are waiting for DOW to write

checks. Dow has been playing games with these women

for years. It certainly destroyed any respect I had

for the company! There is also the MDL settlement

where a group of companies went together to make

settlements according to a grid of problems.

Unfortunately, the problems women presented with most

often were eliminated from the chart because, while

the manufacturer's knew what was going on, the

attornies didn't fully understand the issues.

I don't know of anything in the works for women who

have had gel implants since 1992. Undoubtedly there

will be something in the future because we've seen so

many women get sick!

The reason you aren't to lift your arms is so the

drain tubes won't pop out. . . Even after they're out,

go easy on movements. AND wear a snug, but comfortable

sports bra 24/7 until healing is well underway. There

will be internal scar tissue that will keep you from

sagging if you keep it in place.

The capsule was probably attached to the muscle, so

she had to do some scraping or tugging to get it

loose. . . That will be fine a little later . . .

Nothing to stop you from exercising after you're

healed.

Implants looking clear don't necessarily mean they

aren't contaminated. Not all bacteria can be seen with

the naked eye.

Be sure to drink plenty non-chlorinated water! . . .

1/2 ounce for every pound of body weight. AND eat a

good diet . . . No sugar, no junk, organic if possible

.. . . Ask Dr. Kolb which probiotics she would

recommend that you take on an ongoing basis!

Again, Congradulations! . . . A great way to start off

a New Year!

Hugs and prayers,

Rogene

Hi Cosima

I haven't been online much over the holidays so this is late in

congratulating you on your explant. I am so glad that it is behind

you now and that you can look forward to concentrating on getting

better and better! Take it easy for several days and drink lots of

water!

Hugs, Kathy
